Research Data Analyst 1 (Hybrid Opportunity), Surgery - Technology Enabled Clinical Improvement

Please note this position will be based on the Stanford campus and is a hybrid (working on-site and working from home) subject to operational need.

The Technology Enabled Clinical Improvement (TECI) Center in the Division of General Surgery within the Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Data Analyst 1 to assist in cutting edge surgical performance research by conducting data analysis on our sensor and video databases of surgical skills. Our extensive databases consist of force, motion, and EEG sensor data as well as video and audio data. Candidates will be expected to perform the management and curation of data. This position will be local but hybrid and may require national or international travel to assist with data collection events.

The TECI Center is an award - winning technology and innovation center focused on the area of Digital Health. The research and technology development conducted in the TECI Center has revealed previously unknown performance metrics regarding mastery in surgical operations and bedside procedures. The TECI Center team aims to transform human health and welfare through advances in sensor technology at the point of care supported by data science and personalized, data-driven performance metrics for healthcare providers. The Research Data Analyst 1 will get hands-on experience working with cutting-edge solutions, collaborating with surgeons, engineers, computer scientists, and researchers, and will learn from the leading experts in the field of surgical performance data. The network of leaders and experts connected to the TECI Center provides an exclusive look at the technologies and groups that are shaping the future of healthcare.

Core Duties:
  • Collect, manage and clean datasets.
  • Employ new and existing tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize multivariate relationships in data.
  • Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to data and reporting requirements.
  • Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and suggest possible solutions.
  • Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by investigators and for publication and presentation.
  • Analyze data processes in documentation.
  • Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection and analysis methods.
  • Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Python and data analysis libraries and tools (2-3 years experience in processing and analyzing data sets with Python)
  • Data management and curation skills.
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills - Should be able to work with professionals from various backgrounds (research, medicine, surgery, hardware engineer, etc).
  • Familiarity in version control.
  • Basic understanding of fundamentals of electronic circuit design.
  • Good documentation and organizational skills.
  • Strong visual and presentation skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Rapid skill acquisition.
  • Flexibility to assist with tasks outside of core duties..
  • Proficient in the use of organization and collaborative tools (Zoom, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Box Drive).
  • Proficiency in version control (git).
  • 1-2 years in MATLAB.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and methods.
  • Experience in hardware/sensor development (design of PCB, microcontrollers like Arduino).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as finance, statistics or engineering.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely writing by hand.

The expected pay range for this position is $64,000 to $93,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
