We are hiring a Junior Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team. We have a hybrid work environment with 2 days working remotely, and 3 days in office.
SUMMARY: The Junior Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the sales tax accounting operations of the company. The Junior Accountant is responsible for daily activities related to assuring customers are taxed properly, exemptions are properly documented, customer tax disputes are resolved, and use tax is properly applied. You’ll be responsible for all daily accounting tasks, including preparing tax documents and updating expense files.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the department’s objectives.
Maintenance of sales tax remittance system (OneSource) and procedures, including sales tax exemptions, audits, queries, and Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDA)
Monthly check on sales tax compliance for all states
Identify and confirm all sales tax exemption data; collect, retain and upload exempt certificates for exempt customers when an exemption certificate is received.
Review invoices for correct sales and use tax; checking customer status and applicable sales tax rates
Prepare and send to third party monthly/quarterly sales and use tax data timely, efficiently, and accurately so fillings can happen on time
Work closely with the third party company doing the fillings, so the returns can be filled timely and accurately
Prepare check requests as needed for compliance
Review & analyze Company’s sales tax data and returns; Ensure all payments for sales tax are properly recorded in the general ledger
Reconcile all transactions and state submittals to the general ledger monthly; Prepare and record general ledger journal entries as needed
Identify and document Company’s business requirements related to sales and use tax
Respond to state and local notices, assessments, and inquiries
Assist/manage audits of sales and use tax state and local filings
Research sales tax issues and provide guidance based on jurisdictional tax laws and regulations
Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for sales & use tax reporting
Prepare filings related to business licenses, personal property taxes and gross receipts taxes
Maintain accurate financial records, including but not limited to, balance sheet account reconciliations, documentation of all cash paid for taxes, journal entry support, and appropriate detail for ad hoc analysis.
Monthly bank reconciliations
Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.

 Expert knowledge of accounting and general ledger transactions
 Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
 Advanced financial and adhoc reporting skills.
 Ability to research, analyze, make recommendations, and evaluate financial reports to improve the organization.

Requirements

 Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance OR Bachelor's Degree
 3 - 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
 Proficiency in Excel is required
 Must be inquisitive & willing to explore issues until reaching a logical/supported solution
 Detail oriented with an ability to critically analyze data & reports
 Experience filing sales and use tax returns preferred
 Experience with tax software preferred
 Technology savvy with knowledge of accounting and reporting software with NetSuite and OneSource preferred.
