Network Administrator I

Summary Statement: Under general supervision, this position administers, and maintains multiple data, voice, and video telecommunication networks, systems and software. The incumbent applies general knowledge and exercises discretion and independent judgment to solve a range of operational non-routine problems of limited scope and complexity. Responsibilities include maintaining systems functionality, availability, security, and performance. Assists in the implementation of programs or projects through operational and technical support. Provides support of IT operational tasks and requirements. Maintains configuration standards and adheres to IT best practices and corporate and security policy. Due to the nature of this position, and the requirement for extended coverage, this position may be required to work hours outside of a regular schedule.
Primary Responsibilities
 1.  Provides operational support and maintenance to ensure network and telecommunication systems functionality, availability, security, and performance.
2.  Assists in the implementation of IT technology initiatives and assists the engineering staff in the transition of operational support.
3.  Assists in the build of new networks to design specifications.
4.  Follows standard operating procedures and processes; ensures all systems meet or exceed the business and security requirements. 
5.  Administers and maintains the classified and unclassified networks and telecommunication systems to ensure optimum performance and availability.
6.  Develops technical proficiency in IT technologies; keeps abreast of industry trends.
7.  Communicates all computer network, system and service problems and outages immediately to the SEO supervisors and/or EITO Manager.
8.  Responds to critical after hours support issues.
9.  Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related field with one year minimum experience in Information Technology OR high school diploma with three years minimum experience in Information Technology.
  • Possess fundamental knowledge for managing and supporting IP-based network and telecommunication systems, preferably Cisco. 
  • Experience with IOS/NX-OS, InfoBlox, Ironport, and Riverbed a plus.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated and able to work with general supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form and with all levels of employees; possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to work hours outside of a regular schedule.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD 8570 IAT II certification.
