LGBTQ+ Communications Coordinator (Hybrid)

Stanford University is seeking an LGBTQ+ Communications Coordinator (Digital Community & Social Media Specialist 2) to be under minimal supervision, to build, cultivate, advocate for, respond to, monitor, and grow digital communities on behalf of, and while representing, PRIDEnet. This position will provide critical communications support for PRIDEnet’s LGBTQ+ community engagement for multiple health research endeavors, such as Stanford’s The PRIDE Study, the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program, and more. This position will coordinate communications activities that are tailored for a diverse range of LGBTQ+ audiences and aim to engage new research participants and retain existing research participants, such as social media (content development, posting, and tracking), digital newsletters and email blasts, website updates, administrative support, reporting, and more. A successful candidate will be a thought partner with PRIDEnet’s LGBTQ+ Communications Manager (or surrogate) in developing and implementing innovative and effective communications strategies.

Candidates for PRIDEnet’s LGBTQ+ Communications Coordinator are invited to detail their qualifications for this position (both required and desired) in a cover letter in addition to submitting a resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Duties include:
  • Produce and curate digital content to engage users, increase user base, and grow channels (e.g., @ThePRIDEStudy, @AllofUsLGBTQ). Optimize content delivery strategies; build content topics, tailor content to outlet platform, target specific audiences, and make editorial decisions.
  • Strategize to build and grow digital community through social media channels, paid advertising campaigns, blogs, and the web.
  • Manage social listening efforts based on comments and online conversations. Respond to reputation risks by taking appropriate action and recommend solutions to minimize harm.
  • Compile data, analyze, and report on social media use. Analyze how content is performing and create reports with recommendations to management.
  • Build support for social and communications initiatives among internal stakeholders by acting as internal advocate for digital community efforts, building support and driving digital and communications best practices.
  • Contribute to overall development and refinement of digital community and communications strategy, and innovative social initiatives by proposing and implementing recommendations.
  • Collaborate with community partners and PRIDEnet constituents across digital channels and in-person, when applicable.
  • Represent PRIDEnet at events, within Stanford, and potentially in communications with media.
  • Work with video for recording testimonials and live feeds on social media.
  • May supervise interns, entry-level staff, and volunteers on a per project basis.

About PRIDEnet and The PRIDE Study:
PRIDEnet is a participant-powered research network of sexual and gender minorities which includes but is not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people. PRIDEnet’s mission is to catalyze LGBTQ+ health research by helping ensure that health research participants engage with the research processes on affiliated research projects from end-to-end. PRIDEnet is the primary vehicle for community engagement in The PRIDE Study, a national, online cohort study of the general health of LGBTQ+ adults (more information can be found at https://pridestudy.org). PRIDEnet also conducts community engagement activities with other projects, including the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program, a national research cohort that aims to recruit 1 million people or more living in the United States with an emphasis on underserved communities (more information can be found at https://www.joinallofus.org/lgbt).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with email newsletter platforms.
  • Photography and videography skills (or a strong motivation to develop them).
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and minimum 1 year of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving skills, initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • Proficient in use of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current trends and resources to keep up with future trends.
  • Working knowledge of CMS web systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and/or other text and image editing tools.
  • Working knowledge of project management tools, such as Asana or others.
  • Basic experience in graphic design. For example, the ability to create an LGBTQ+ awareness day graphic, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional work on evenings and weekends.
  • This position is hybrid: remote working from home three days per week and in-office two days per week at 3180 Porter Drive in Palo Alto, CA. Additional in-office work is available if desired.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,000 to $77,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
