Student Activities Coordinator

Summary:
Responsible for the development and implementation of student programming.

Duties:
  1. Develops, coordinates, and implements student programming for WNMU main campus, Deming Campus, and distance learners to include programming that is geared to commuter and non-traditional students.
  2. Coordinates Mustangs Care to provide service programming for students. Coordinates cultural programs to provide multicultural education to students.
  3. Works with the Student Leadership Coordinator to develop and update WNMU Student Life webpage that focuses on providing resource information and programming for distance learners.
  4. Manages all facets of the Student Life social media platforms to included but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
  5. Promotes student engagement, social awareness, responsibility, and academic success through student programming. Assists in implementing Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Great Race.
  6. Responsible for continued First 40 programming to assist in student retention.
  7. Consults and conducts preliminary contract and fee negotiations with artists, managers, and/or agents for programing.
  8. Produces financial and activity reports for programing.
  9. Maintains equipment inventory, conducts security checks of equipment, schedule of usage, and makes and/or recommends purchases for programing, as appropriate.
  10. Works with campus and community organizations to create collaborative programming.
  11. Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Leadership, Hospitality management, or related filed required. Three years of experience in similar position can substitute for education. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Job Knowledge:
Experience including supervision of employees, program development experience and experience working with special populations of students. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Must have demonstrated knowledge and interaction with media outlets. Fluent in Microsoft Office. Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations):
Normal office environment and student affairs activities. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. Must be able to visually and auditory assess situations to insure health and safety. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Light maintenance such as shoveling, sweeping, mopping, throwing of trash, and others may be needed. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license.

Western New Mexico University is a state funded University. As such, all positions are dependent on state appropriations and available funding sources.
