The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking applications for candidates for the position of Landscape Designer Trainee within the Division of Capital Program Management (CPM), Landscape Architecture & Environmental Solutions. Landscape Designer Trainees are assigned a 40 - hour work week. Current starting salary is $53,050 and $55,478 after six months. As a NJ State Department, NJDOT offers a comprehensive benefits package including Health Care (medical, prescription drug, dental and vision care), Pension, Deferred Compensation, 13 paid holidays, and Benefit Leave (12 vacation days, 15 sick days and 3 administrative days). Standard workweek is Monday through Friday.

The Division of Capital Program Support provides engineering and administrative support to Capital Program Management along with implementing various work programs for the Department. The major function of the division is to help the Department design projects for deliverability. This requires engineering support during all phases of project development - Planning/Concept Development, Preliminary Engineering, Final Design, and during Construction.

Capital Program Support includes four Offices:
• Program Management Office (PMO)
• Design Standards (DS)
• Utility Management (UM)
• Landscape Architecture & Environmental Solutions (BLAES)

This position will work within the Office of Landscape Architecture, which is responsible for integrating proposed transportation projects into the existing landscape while attempting to minimize or mitigate adverse impacts to the roadside environment and community. This design team works on current NJDOT projects which include a wide range of Landscape Architectural involvement such as:

• Highway landscape projects including Soil Erosion & Sediment Control
• Wetland and riparian mitigation projects
• Reforestation
• Urban design projects
• Noise barrier and bridge aesthetics
• Computer generated visualization work
• Good Neighbor Planting Program
• Pollinator Initiative under OLA involvement

Appointee will participate in site analysis investigations, research of landscape materials including, but not limited to, plants, soils, pavers and streetscape elements, and preparation of landscape plans, details, calculations, cost estimates and specifications.

The ideal candidate will possess background or experience in GIS, CADD, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, or other graphics software.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) currently offers a telework pilot program, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work at your primary residence outside of your assigned DOT work location. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJDOT employees to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.

New hires will not be eligible for the telework pilot program until they successfully complete their 4 - month working test period.

REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning or Design.

Preference given to a bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture. This may include a BLA, BSLA or BALA.

NOTE: Possession of a valid license as a Landscape Architect issued by the New Jersey State Board of Architects may be substituted for the above education requirement.
