HumRRO is seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant. The Payroll Accountant ensures that wages are paid in accordance with standard payroll practices and that all applicable taxes are withheld in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. This position is in HumRRO's Alexandria, VA headquarters office.



About the Job

  • Process employee data in Costpoint related to the following: new hires, terminations, transfers, salary adjustments, direct deposits, and tax withholdings.
  • Ensure monthly and semi-monthly disbursement of payroll is processed in accordance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
  • Review and audit payrolls, including gross pay, hours worked, vacation accruals, tax deductions, benefits deductions, garnishments, etc. Make necessary corrections prior to final payroll approval and transmission.
  • Process electronic timesheets: ensures accuracy of all employee timekeeping records.
  • Record and reconcile employee benefits deductions.
  • Deposit withheld taxes and prepare tax returns according to the regulations of the taxing authority.
  • Prepare annual reconciliation tax returns, including employee W-2s.
  • Confirm W-2 amounts with payroll totals.
  • Prepare quarterly state Wage and Contribution Reports and other reports as necessary.
  • Support month-end close process to include preparing and entering adjusting journal entries into Costpoint, performing account reconciliations, and preparing accounting workpapers.
  • Determine employer unemployment insurance liability.
  • Input payroll changes and perform other clerical duties, including, but not limited to, auditing, filing, recording, analyzing, and reconciling payroll records.
  • Lead workers compensation, 403 (b), and external audits.
  • Keep current in federal and state laws affecting payroll.
  • Ensure that all tax (taxability codes) and deduction files within accounting system are set up properly and in accordance with both taxing authorities and the structure of company's policies.
  • Setup and maintain project workforces for direct and indirect projects.
  • Support project and account setup and post award project accounting as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned



Requirements and Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree on any related discipline
  • 5 plus years of relevant experience for government contractor
  • Experience and proficiency working with Deltek Costpoint is an advantage
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimum supervision
