Information Security Summer Intern 2023

This position will be required to work collaboratively with other information security personnel and provide the day to day support for information security prevention and detection systems. Additionally, this position will require the ability to quickly respond to information security incidents. The Information Security Operations Management Trainee will perform tasks to ensure the health and functionality of assigned platforms including monitoring and continuously improving them to meet the challenges of a constantly changing environment of cyber security. The trainee should have familiarity with the principals of network and endpoint security, current threat and attack trends, and have a working knowledge of security principals such as defense in depth. The candidates most likely to succeed will be those who possess a disciplined, yet inquisitive nature to analyze suspicious activities on the network or end user device. 

Principal Duties:
The Information Security Operations Management Trainee must be to able work in a dynamic, fast paced environment at a highly technical level and be capable of identifying threats that cause security events. The Management Trainee will be a member of the Information Security team and will participate in the continuous improvement of the overall information security program. Additionally, the candidate will also provide research and investigations for discovered anomalies. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide platform support for assigned prevention and detection tools
  • Respond to network and host based security events
  • Participate in detecting, investigating, and resolving security events
  • Assist in the collection and production of metrics
  • Capable of working independently and involving leadership as necessary
  • Work with Cyber Security Incident Response on escalated items
  • Participate in team on-call rotation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education:
Preferred Level: Bachelor’s Degree (BS)

Preferred Majors: Computer Science or Information Systems, Specialization in Information Security/Assurance is a plus

Licenses/Certification Preferred: Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CompTIA Security +, CompTIA Network +

Skills Required
  • Knowledge of Windows OS and *NIX(UNIX and LINUX) systems
  • Malware cleaning experience
  • Understanding of Network Architecture and Network Protocols
  • Network Proxy Experience
  • Network Intrusion Detection System (IDS) or Network Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
  • Firewall Experience
  • Advanced Python or PowerShell scripting
  • Passion to work with a diverse team and assist in improving the security program of a large enterprise
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through, initiative, and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written interpersonal communications skills and ability to deal effectively with business partners, peers and management

Skills Desired:
  • Network Analysis tools such as Kali Linux
  • Knowledge of Netflow, PCAP Analysis
  • Zscaler or other Proxy Experience
  • Proofpoint Email 
  • Forensics and Malware Analysis experience
  • Mobile Security Experience
  • Enterprise encryption technologies
  • Tipping Point or other Intrusion Prevention Systems 
  • Qualys Vulnerability Scanner Tool
  • Tenable Vulnerability Scanner Tool
  • HP Application Security (Fortify/Web Inspect)

You must be able to work in our midtown Atlanta HQ for 3 months in the Summer of 2023
Relocation assistance is not provided, but NS does offer a Living Stipend of $850/month, which is taxed, to those who qualify.
