Hertog Foundation Fellowships

The Hertog Foundation is now accepting applications for its Summer 2023 fellowships and seminars. We offer residential summer programs that allow our fellows to study in an intensive seminar setting with outstanding faculty and engaged peers.
 
  • Eligibility: Undergraduates and very recent graduates (2022 or 2023) not already pursuing an advanced degree
  • Location: Washington, DC
  • Duration: 6-week program, June 18–July 29, 2023
  • Stipend: Housing and some meals, plus $2,500 stipend
  • Deadline: 02/15/23 (Early) | 03/01/23 (Final)
 
Hertog Fellows study classic texts in political thought and some of the seminal documents of American politics with an outstanding faculty. In addition, students study selected public policy issues with some of those who helped formulate and implement those policies.
 
  • Eligibility: Advanced undergraduates, recent graduates, and young professionals are all eligible to apply.
  • Location: Washington, DC
  • Duration: Varies (1–3 weeks), July–August 2023
  • Stipend: Housing and some meals, plus stipend

Our three Security Studies seminars provide a practitioner’s view of national security, led by faculty who have direct experience forming and advising American policy, including the House’s China specialist, Mike Gallagher. Fellows may apply to one or more seminars, as fits their interest and schedule.

  • Eligibility: Advanced undergraduates, incoming and current law students, and young professionals.
  • Location: Washington, DC
  • Duration: 1-week program, July 31–August 4, 2023
  • Stipend: Housing and some meals, plus $500 stipend
  • Deadline: 02/15/23 (Early) | 03/01/23 (Final)

Our one-week Constitutional Studies seminar will consider landmark decisions that could be overturned by the Supreme Court and their implications for American politics.

  • Eligibility: Graduating seniors (2023), rising seniors (2024) and exceptional rising juniors (2025)
  • Location: Washington, DC
  • Duration: 2-week program, July 28–August 12, 2023
  • Stipend: Housing, most meals, and $1,500 stipend
  • Deadline: 02/15/23 (Early) | 03/01/23 (Final)
 
The War Studies Program, run by the Institute for the Study of War, aims to educate undergraduate students about the theory, practice, organization, and control of war and military forces. Over the course of the program, students will learn from and interact with distinguished senior leaders in the national security and military communities.
