R&D Staff Scientist II

JOB SUMMARY
The R&D Scientist II will work with multi-disciplinary team of biologist, engineers, and computer scientists developing new approaches for detecting and characterizing biological samples for the presence of bacteria, viruses, and toxins in the areas of environmental and diagnostic assay development. The incumbent will work with other R&D and engineering resources on projects of critical importance and will research and develop advanced technologies targeting new and emerging sensors for bio detection applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 
  • Design, integrate, and test products within the area of biological expertise 
  • Collaborate with biologists and engineers in development of novel biological identification technologies
  • Work from first principles; start a program from the beginning. Support larger R&D/development projects and provide technical leadership for smaller projects within area of expertise
  • Participate in patent writing and contribute to the company’s technology portfolio

  • Execute and contribute to product development plans and, where variances develop, develop and execute corrective action plans to complete within commitments
  • Provide inputs to, and execute, the engineering approach that meets contract requirements
  • Perform experiments and tests including: Setup, Execution, and Tear Down
  • Contribute to the definition and collection of relevant test data for concept and product development
  • Maintain applicable CSES test equipment
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook which can easily be understood by team members.
  • Provide a detailed understanding of phenomena utilized by at least one company product or a general understanding of multiple company products
  • Provide data analysis and interpretation in support of Biological project objectives
  • Calibrate, prepare, and demonstrate systems for in-house and field trials
  • Provide support for hardware and software integration and test
  • Collect, evaluate, analyze, and document in-house and field performance data
  • Test and report discrepancies in software detection or algorithm issues
  • Test and evaluate new equipment
  • Provide in-person and remote support and training for end users and system operators
  • Work with other scientists, engineers, and technicians in a team oriented environment
