Summer History Internship at Frying Pan Farm Park

Location: Frying Pan Farm Park
Schedule: 20-25 hours per week. Mostly weekdays hours, but some weekends required. 
Spend your summer as a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country, with more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and nine Historical/Natural Managed sites, the Fairfax County Park Authority is a fun dynamic place to fulfill your summer internship. Historic Frying Pan Farm Park is seeking a history intern for the summer of 2023!

o   Learn and gain experience conducting research, transcribing documents, researching for biographical content, and assisting with exhibit creation. 
o   Help design and create an exhibit that highlights the histories of traditionally marginalized groups such as, African American, or religious minorities. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, the African American experience during the time of FPFP’s 1790’s Meeting House.
o   Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs. Be able to work outdoors, stand for long periods, traverse uneven ground, carry, pull and (or) lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Preferred Qualifications: Background in History or Museum Studies. Proficient with Microsoft publisher. Self-motivated and comfortable working alone and in a team setting. First Aid, CPR certification. Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Special Requirements: All newly hired employees/interns are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Child Protective Services Registry, driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Must be available to work the annual 4-H Fair, August 3-6.
