Project Associate 2023

Position Overview:

IBI is an international economic development consulting firm whose main client is the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The firm is growing rapidly, solidifying its experience in the focus areas of economic growth, governance, M&E, and information technology for governance.

The Project Associate (PA) will provide administrative and logistical support to IBI’s Project Managers and Directors for day-to-day project management activities, as well as assist in drafting, reviewing, and formatting documents. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, results-oriented, customer service-minded individual who is able to work well in a deadline-driven, multitasking environment. This position will report to a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. 

This is a full-time entry level position and a great starting point for anyone interested in international development and project management. The project associate will work closely with the project managers to support overall implementation. As skill grows, the PA will be assigned smaller projects to manage.

Telework/WFH: Employees are required to spend a minimum of 50% of each pay period in our home office in Arlington, VA. The remaining 50% can be WFH/telework. IBI requires employees to follow federal regulations regarding COVID 19.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Backstop project managers in their day-to-day tasks. Maintain a tracker of tasks for their assigned projects 
  • This position involves a substantial amount of clerical work during the first year. Maintain, update, or develop new management tools, including internal apps, databases, files, and records
  • Acts as a liaison to the field for day-to-day problem solving and support. Independently trouble-shoots common problems and escalates more complex issues to the Manager and follows up until resolved. 
  • Draft and post social media content  
  • Make logistical arrangements for travel, events, and workshops 
  • Draft, reformat, or rewrite documents such as terms of references, employee guidelines, CVs for submission to clients, contract justifications 
  • Ensure clear, professional and timely communication with consultants and field offices 
  • Copy-edit and format documents, such as quarterly reports, work plans, etc. 
  • Review projects’ expense documentation for completeness and accuracy; review invoices 
  • Track projects’ expenses and analyze financial information 
  • May be required to travel internationally 
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications
Required:
  • Current US work authorization. IBI does not sponsor H1B or other visas at this time.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development/Relations, Economics, Finance, English, Management, or another related field.
  • Ability to travel overseas, as well as ability to be vaccinated as required by local authorities, i.e. Yellow Fever Vaccination.
  • Native or Level 4 proficiency in English. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 
  • Flexibility to accommodate projects/clients in various time zones (able to work late at night or early in the morning, as necessary).    
  • Able to work independently, while also collaborating with team members.
  • Ability to adjust to changes in demands, new situations or approaches. 
  • Strong career interest in international development. 
  • Proficiency in working in MS Office (especially MS Word and Excel), Adobe.
Preferred:
  • Experience living and working overseas in a developing country. 
  • Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, French, or Arabic. 
  • Experience writing, editing, and formatting documents, correspondence, or social media posts; experience creating apps and web pages on Microsoft 365. 
  • Demonstrable skills in writing/editing and preparing documents for publications and/or skills in Excel/VBA to include budgeting, creating spreadsheets/databases, and commonly used Excel tools. 
  • Demonstrable graphic design experience/skills. 
  • Experience as an employee or intern with a USAID Contractor or consultancy.
