Postdoctoral Associate, Lab of Dr. Erica Davis

Postdoctoral Associate opportunities are immediately available within the Advanced Center for Translational Genetic Medicine (ACT-GeM) within the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute. The Erica Davis' lab vision is to understand rare pediatric genetic disease through diversity, discovery and development. Candidates will be considered for a training position that will involve leading interdisciplinary projects with readily available funding.

The Postdoctoral Associate will perform lab work in the Human Molecular Genetics and Physiology Neighborhood. The ideal candidates will be accomplished, highly motivated, and creative scientists with interests in at least one of the three following areas:

1) understanding the architecture of human genetic disease;
2) investigating the mechanisms underlying disease processes; and
3) identification of novel therapeutic paradigms for inherited disorders.

K.S.A.'s:
  • PHD. in Biology or related discipline.
  • Position is located in CHICAGO, IL. Must be able to commute to downtown Chicago, IL.
  • Previous experience in genetics, cell, molecular, or computational biology; botany; zoology or other directly related scientific fields are desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge in Computer programs, word, excel and power point presentations.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills:  Ability to establish priorities and react promptly to a large variety of requests and needs, sometimes in stressful situations.   
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.

Job Duties:
  • Provide researchers as requested with technical assistance. 
  • Performs job functions adhering to principals of innovation, academic excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality research effort to our Institution, co-workers and others.
  • Design and implement research protocols; design safety procedures; adapt new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures.
  • Supervise other personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in training of fellows, residents, students and volunteer workers as needed.
  • Genetic studies, molecular biology, cloning, protein analysis, gene chip arrays and others.
  • Collect, prepare and analyze research data; keep detailed written or electronic records summarizing experiments and recording of research data; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
  • Preparing data for presentations, grants and publications.
  • Help write grant proposals and progress reports related to research projects.  
  • Participate in regular lab meetings, journal clubs, and research seminars.  
  • Other job functions as assigned.
