Summer SOAR Nurse Externship

At Carilion, we want to help you learn and grow. The Carilion Summer SOAR Nurse Externship mentoring program is designed for rising senior R.N. students.
 
Through a one-on-one relationship, students are mentored in two clinical areas throughout an 8-week paid summer externship program. The extern will gain hands-on experience by assisting with routine patient care and practicing a variety of clinical nursing skills in the ambulatory setting and/or inpatient care setting. In addition, externs will have the opportunity to attend weekly professional development conferences. Student nurses can gain valuable experience by:
 
·    Observing with physical assessments and documentation.
·    Developing plans of care for patients.
·    Learning nursing procedures with R.N. supervision.
·    Enhancing critical thinking, organizational and time management skills.
·    Earning a competitive salary.

What is the Carilion Summer SOAR Nurse Externship program and when is it offered?
Registered Nurse students who are preparing for their senior year are paired with a mentor (an experienced R.N.) on a nursing unit. The R.N. mentors the student during an eight-week session from June 5 to July 29, 2023. This program fosters a positive transition from student to clinical professional.
 
How do I apply for the program?
To apply for the program, you must submit the online application “Summer SOAR Nurse Externship.” Then, follow the instructions listed in the job posting for completing the application and submitting references. Incomplete application packets will not be considered.
