Program Coordinator

Job Title: Program Coordinator
Reports to: Program Director, Camp Director

Position Purpose: It is the main responsibility of the Program Coordinator to provide direction, support and evaluations to Activity Leaders. The Program Coordinator must ensure that staff are providing acceptable care to campers and to report to the Program Director or Camp Director when necessary.

Essential Job Functions:
1) Observe, supervise, evaluate and assist activity leaders with attention to all of the following: quality of programming, camper interactions, ability to lead counselors, happiness, behavior management, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character and skill development.
2) To be the decision maker regarding an activity leaders welfare, campers’ well-being and camp policy.
3) Be comfortable with providing immediate feedback to staff and suggesting various techniques to deal with camper behavior and health.
4) Research and suggest new ideas for programming and with activity leaders when necessary.
5) Evaluate proposed program ideas and schedules with Program Director.
6) Assure that campers are properly supervised at all times.
7) Review completed camper comments and observations.
8) Assisting with daily living skills of campers, including, but not limited to:
  • Routinely lifting 50+ lbs. during transfers of campers
  • Personal care: toileting, showering, dressing, brushing teeth, etc.
  • Following any behavioral care plans
  • Assisting with meal times to any degree of a campers’ needs.
9) Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities and motivate campers to participate in programs to their greatest ability. Assist in program implementation as necessary.
10) Maintain constant communication with leadership staff regarding camp life.
11) Act in capacity of Program/Camp Director when Program/Camp Director are not on camp.
12) Abide by all policies and procedures as outlined in the staff training manual.
13) Be alert to campers and fellow staff needs. Assist with health or personal problem and/or discuss with nursing staff, head counselors or camp director as necessary.
14) Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
15) Be able to instruct campers in emergency procedures and situations.
16) Other duties as assigned.

Other Job Duties:
  • Assisting with special events.
  • Planning and facilitation of programing, when necessary.
  • Contributing to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
  • Be alert of equipment and facilities to ensure proper care and maintenance; report necessary repairs promptly.

Relationships: Program Coordinators generally have regular relationships/communication with counselors, nursing staff, dietary aids and kitchen staff, activity directors and maintenance staff. Communicate concerns/questions with Camp Director. Camp Director is support person, information source and evaluator for Camper Coordinators.

Qualifications:
  • Must have experience at WBC or in other supervisory positions.
  • Needs knowledge of programming areas and activities appropriate for campers being served.
  • Must be able to obtain or become First Aid/CPR certified (course offered during staff training).
  • Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.
  • Must be willing to live in camp setting and work irregular hours.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understand the needs of the campers WBC serves.
  • Ability to relate to campers and staff in a positive manner.
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Organizational skills
  • Aptitude for completing reports and paperwork
  • Ability to communicate with others

Physical Aspects of the Job:
  • Be able to routinely (multiple times per day) lift and carry over 50 lbs.
  • Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures (weather, fire, etc.)
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid (illness or injury).
  • Experience daily sun and heat exposure

Demands of the job may be such as to require you to assume duties not indicated that may be assigned by the Camp Director or person you are accountable to.

Some requirements of a Program Coordinator will include endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking and stretching. The position requires hand-eye coordination.
