Assistant Principal of Operations

Who we are: KIPP Colorado Schools (KIPP CO) is a network of six high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools. Our 300-person staff educates 2,500 students in grades 9-12 at KIPP Denver Collegiate High School and KIPP Northeast Denver Leadership Academy, grades 5-8 at KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy and KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School, and grades Early Childhood Education (ECE)-4 through 4th grade at KIPP Northeast Elementary. In 2019, KIPP Sunshine Peak Elementary became our newest elementary school educating students from ECE-3 through 4th grade. About the Role: The Assistant Principal of Operations is a school-based leadership position, reporting to the school leader and accountable to the Director of Regional Operations, overseeing all operational functions required to run an efficient, thriving school. This individual will work to create a shared vision and lead the implementation and execution of clear operational systems focused on fulfilling the needs of students, families and school community stakeholders. The APO will also serve as the key liaison for the school with the regional operations, finance, human resources, data, advocacy/community engagement and development departments.



Job Responsibilities 
Key Outcomes:
  • Enrollment: Ensure 100% of the school seats are filled by the first day of school and October Count Day through student recruitment and active enrollment.
  • Day-to-day operations: Manages customer-centric school systems that meet the needs of students, staff and families.
  • Attendance: Oversees systems that support the goal of 96% student attendance.
  • Finance: Partners with the school leader to manage school level expenses and remain within the budget.
  • Student Safety: Completes 100% of required drills and ensure compliance with safety systems.
  • Data: Implements systems that support 100% data integrity per the monthly data audit.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.

  • The school-based operations team typically includes an Operations Manager and an Operations Coordinator in addition to the APO.

  • Models the all hands on deck mentality and is willing to do whatever it takes to get the work done right

Technical Competencies:
  • Develops the school-wide operations vision that supports and operationalizes the academic and cultural vision of the school
  • Manages strong and efficient systems for school operations including field trips, events, report cards, student testing, student schedules, attendance and family communication
  • Supports human resources systems including payroll and time off reports
  • Serves as a member of the school leadership team
  • Develops and manages student recruitment strategy to ensure that the school begins the academic year with full classes
  • Manages the budget in partnership with school leader and ensures compliance with all finance policies and alignment with curricular goals
  • Manages systems for effective and efficient inventory and purchasing of supplies
  • Creates and implements Emergency Plans for the school and oversees all drills
  • Manages the integrity of data in the Student Information System including attendance, attrition, enrollment, demographics, and FRL applications
  • Manages the relationship with the facilities manager, as applicable, to ensure that the facility is safe, clean and inviting
  • Troubleshoots tech issues and escalates to the Tech Team as appropriate.

  • Salary will begin at $70,000 and is commensurate with experience.
