Assistant County Attorney

Description
Salary offered, commensurate with experience 

Performs professional work advising and representing the York-Poquoson Department of Social Services. May also be required to advise and represent other County boards, agencies and offices, officials and employees on legal matters as assigned by the County Attorney, and to represent the County in court. Acts as general legal counsel to assigned clients to advise them on issues with legal implication; and represents such clients' interests in court, as necessary. May also be responsible for supervising and reviewing the work of the departmental clerical staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of law, preferably with 3 to 5 years of experience in the practice of law; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Familiarity with Virginia court rules and practice and prior courtroom experience is required. Prior experience representing local governments or departments of state government is desirable, as is experience representing a Department of Social Services or families and juveniles in similar proceedings.
 
Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar. 
 
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with satisfactory driving record.
 
Experience with local government preferred.

Admission to the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is a plus.

Physical Demands
Must be physically able to grip and use tools such as pens, pencils, telephone and standard office equipment.
