Director of Student Life

Mission (Purpose and Function): To carry out faithfully all the responsibilities of a Christian administrator as described in the Lafayette Christian School’s Mission Statement, which states:
Lafayette Christian School excels in Christ centered education and equips each unique
child to love and serve God in all of life.


Responsibilities and Duties: 
  • Communicating Vision and Setting School Culture
  • Work with the Principal to articulate and implement the mission of Lafayette Christian School in communication with others, the establishment of a positive school climate, and the implementation of effective programs.
  • Promote and maintain a positive school atmosphere that is conducive to learning, including the efficient, safe, and economical use of the school's resources.
  • Maintain a safe atmosphere in the school, with proper supervision of students.
  • Oversee student discipline 
  • Regularly meet with the principal to report information and solve problems.
  • Athletic Director Duties
  • Scheduling of boys and girls interscholastic athletic contests.
  • Ensuring the presence of qualified referees, scorekeepers, ticket takers at all home games.
  • All physical arrangements, including locking and unlocking the school building. 
  • Ensuring that each athlete has passed a physical examination given by a qualified medical person. 
  • Finding and recommending coaches to the administration and athletic committee in a timely manner.
  • Procuring athletic supplies, uniforms, and equipment needed for interscholastic sports, with approval of the administration.
  • Establishing the eligibility of student-athletes, based on the eligibility policy:
  • Defining team expectations to students and parents alike.
  • Scheduling
  • Assist in preparation Master Class Schedule with Principal
  • Assist in coordinating substitute teachers
  • Assist in coordination of building use/rentals
  • Community relations
  • Assist in communicating with parents and staff on a regular basis, keeping them informed of schedules, policies, procedures, and the benefits of Christian education at LCS. 
  • Organize staff and schedules for school wide special events which serve to focus attention on the school, enhance public perception, bolster school spirit, and deepen support commitment.  
  • Operations 
  • Assist in the management and supervision of all functions relating to building operation, equipment maintenance, and grounds care.
  • Assist in required school documentation and reporting.

Assigned responsibilities will be conducted in conjunction with the Principal. The above list may not be totally inclusive or exclusive. Responsibilities delegated to the Director of Student Life may be at the discretion of the Principal based on the individual’s areas of expertise and time available. 

Qualifications:
  • Deeply committed follower of Christ, able to clearly and comfortably articulate his/her faith with the goal of being a positive Christian witness in all areas of teaching and administration. 
  • Exemplify Christian leadership for staff and community.
  • Have a passion for Christian education, displaying compassionate care for the academic and spiritual lives of the students.  
  • Display a thorough knowledge and understanding of Reformed theology and be willing to become familiar with the history and Reformed heritage of LCS, honoring those who have come before.  
  • Signed agreement with Article II of the Lafayette Christian School constitution which states: “The basis of the Society and of all instruction given in the school is the infallible Word of God as interpreted in the Reformed Confessional Standards. Based on these standards, we are committed to the following principles: that the education of children in school, as well as in the home, must be in accordance with the Word of God, therefore, it is a parental responsibility to provide Christian education institutions.”
  • Under normal circumstances, an intent to educate current and prospective children in his/her family in CSI Christian day schools.
  • Active member of a church whose teaching agrees with the LCS Employee Statement of Beliefs.
  • Current certification from a State (with a goal of being certified in the State of Indiana within 3 years of first employment) in teaching or school administration (exceptions may only be made by the LCS Board).
  • Experience teaching in the classroom.

Work Period: Year-round (shorter hours in summer)
