Team Advisor: Film Production & Screenwriting (Summer 2023)

THE NSLC ON FILM INTENSIVE & FILM PRODUCTION & SCREENWRITING IS LOOKING FOR TEAM ADVISORS FOR SUMMER 2023.

National Student Leadership Conference: Film Production & Screenwriting & Film Intensive
Since 1989, thousands of outstanding high school students have attended the NSLC to explore today’s most exciting careers, develop essential leadership skills, and experience life on a college campus. This summer, the NSLC will host its Film Production & Screenwriting (9-day) program, and its Film Intensive (18-day) program, both of which are conferences that expose talented high school students to the vast world of cinematic storytelling and production. Under the guidance of their Team Advisors, students will get hands-on experience within the field. The NSLC on Film Production & Screenwriting and The NSLC on Film Intensive are both hiring Team Advisors and Assistant Team Advisors.

The Role of the Team Advisor
Team Advisors (TAs) act as facilitators, presenters, simulation monitors, and resident advisors. The job of a TA encompasses the role of a chaperone, teacher, mentor, and policy enforcer. As a TA, you will facilitate and supervise a group of 12-16 students. Many TAs will also lead activities, simulations, and lectures attended by all students, as well as set up and break down activities. This is a unique opportunity to serve as a mentor and role model for talented young students and share your passion and knowledge of topics within the field of film. Team Advisors for the Film Production & Screenwriting Program will be paid $900 at the end of each 9-day session. Team Advisors for the Film Intensive Program will be paid $1800 at the end of each 18-day session.

The Role of the Assistant Team Advisor
Assistant Team Advisors (ATAs) work with a Team Advisor (TA) to help manage, facilitate, and support a TA group of 12-16 students. The ATA holds similar responsibilities as a TA and the position is also an opportunity to serve as a mentor and role model for talented young students and share your passion for and knowledge of film production. The ATA position is a position of learning, being in service, and contributing to the NSLC program. Most ATAs are current college freshmen or sophomores. Many of our past ATAs have considered this position as a “team advisor in training.” Assistant Team Advisors for the Film Production & Screenwriting Program will be paid $700 at the end of each 9-day session. Team Advisors for the Film Intensive Program will be paid $1400 at the end of each 18-day session.

Assistant Team Advisors and Team Advisors: Both positions arrive on-site 5 days before students arrive in order to participate in a mandatory 4-day orientation and training. This training runs from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM daily. Following training, ATA/TAs will work their sessions with a multi-day break in between each session. As an ATA/TA, you will also serve as a Resident Advisor. This entails living in the same residence dorms as the students and being present for any questions or concerns students may have during their time with the NSLC. ATAs and TAs work very long days and are expected to be ready to assist students at any point during the program. A typical day lasts from 9:00 AM - 10:30 PM. In addition, staff has daily meetings to review and prepare for the days ahead.

Requirements for Employment
Staff must be current college students or recent college graduates with a background and interest in film, writing, or production. The core focus of NSLC is on leadership. Candidates should have leadership experience. Training days prior to the start of the session are mandatory. When applying, please submit a cover letter and resume along with your application.

The NSLC pays for room & board, meals during sessions (most of which are eaten in the dining hall on campus), and transportation to and from the conference. For more information on sites, programs, and how to apply, visit www.nslcleaders.org/jobs
