Credit Research Analyst- Opus Investment Management

Opus Investment Management is seeking a Credit Research Analyst to join our growing team in Worcester, MA.
 
Opus Investment Management is an SEC-registered investment advisor dedicated to providing performance tailored to the specific needs and risk appetite of the clients we serve, including insurance companies, captive insurers, risk retention groups, self-insurance groups, government risk pools, pensions, endowments, foundations and similar organizations.  Opus empowers its clients to become strong advocates for their portfolios while we navigate operating constraints, regulatory issues and rating agency considerations.
 
This is a Full-time, Exempt role. The Hanover has adopted a hybrid work model with a flexible work week that allows for 2 or 3 days of remote work each week with the balance of time being in the office. Relocation assistance will be provided if not local to the Worcester, MA area.
 
Position Summary:
The Research Analyst will perform fundamental credit analysis in assigned industries (non-financials), develop and effectively communicate investment recommendations and monitor existing portfolio holdings.  The analyst will be relied upon to become the subject matter expert and key thought leader for assigned research sectors, understand underlying economic/business metrics; ensure portfolio holdings are opportunistically positioned, reflect favorable risk/reward profiles and capture positive long-term sector trends.
 
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Recommend the purchase and sale of corporate fixed income securities to portfolio managers.
  • Identify investment opportunities and assess issuer risk through relative value and fundamental credit analyses.
  • Support recommendations with verbal presentations and/or written reports.
  • Monitor credit quality and pricing levels of existing holdings and economic and industry trends.
  • Attend industry and broker-sponsored conferences, as well as maintain relationships with rating agency and ‘Street’ analysts.
  • Support manager of private capital investments, including tracking of capital activity, fund performance, and subsequent reporting of results for limited partnership investments.
  • Actively contribute to other projects and process improvement efforts as needed.
 
Position Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
  • Approximately 1-5 years of institutional fixed income or commercial banking credit experience.
  • Strong analytical and oral and written communication skills with the ability to present investment recommendations and ideas to members of the investment team.
  • High level of intellectual curiosity, motivation, versatility, efficiency, and ethical behavior.
  • CFA (or progress toward) is preferred.
  • Formal bank credit training and MBA would be a strong plus.
  • Ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Bloomberg, FactSet, Clearwater, and Microsoft Office 2010
