Editorial and Production Manager

The White House Historical Association is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization founded in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion. For more than sixty years, the Association has produced award-winning books on a wide range of subjects related to the history of the President’s House and has actively fulfilled its educational mission with robust educational programming and retail offerings. 

This is NOT a political position or a position with the United States Government. All proceeds from the sale of the Association’s books and products are used to fund the acquisition of historic furnishings and artwork for the permanent White House Collection, assist in the preservation of public rooms, and further its educational mission.

The Association is seeking an Editorial and Production Manager to join the award-winning publishing department.

The Role:
·      Coordinates the workflow for White House History Quarterly, the Association's quarterly magazine. Maintains liaison with authors and contribu­tors. Maintains Guidelines for Authors. Maintains and troubleshoots schedules for upcoming issues. Makes first editorial and formatting pass. Manages circulation of article drafts through the editorial process. Answers inquiries from potential authors.
·      Manages research and compilation of images used in White House History Quarterly and special projects. Works with editors, authors, and lenders to obtain specified illustrations and ensures proper credits are used.
·      Assists with White House History Quarterly subscription systems and customer inquiries. Monitors and updates subscription information posted on the WHHA web sites. Suggests improvements to forms, subscriber database and systems.
·      Assists with the production of publications, printed products, and ephemera as needed. Drafts and edits copy when needed. Assists with production process, coordination of photography, and with communications with artists and printers.
·      Coordinates distribution of new publications to authors, contributors, and wholesale vendors.
·      Ensures that White House History Quarterly pages in the Association's website are updated following the release of each issue.
·      Maintains up-to-date knowledge of WHHQ style sheet and design software.


Required:
·      Degree in English, History, Museum Studies, or related field
·      Minimum of one year professional experience 
·      Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)
·      Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
·      Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
·      Ability to work creatively and collegially
·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·      Genuine interest in history and the arts
