Summer Internship, National Park Service (Chattanooga, TN): Biology Assistant

Position Title: Biology Assistant

LIVING AND RELOCATION ALLOWANCE:
Weekly Stipend: $580.00
Relocation Allowance: $350.00

POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Create a vegetation management plan for Orchard Knob (one-acre land parcel)
  • Assist with tribal consultation with the management of Moccasin Bend, and coordinate with staff to introduce ethnographic plants to the area for Native American use (e.g., basketry, medicinal, etc.)
  • Remove invasive plants from various areas

DELIVERABLES
  • Vegetation management plan for Orchard Knob
  • Assistance with tribal consultation and inclusion to preserve and protect Moccasin Bend
  • Physical removal of invasive plants from the landscape

DESIRED INTERN QUALIFICATIONS
  • Physically work in the field to clear invasive vegetation, good communication skills - verbally and written, possesses the ability to write plans to guide management decisions.
  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent legal resident (“green-card-holder”). Prior to starting this position, a government security background clearance will be required.
WORK SETTING
Office, field work, driver's license required.

VEHICLE AND DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Applicant will need a valid driver's license in order to drive a government vehicle.
  • A personal vehicle is RECOMMENDED but not required for this position.
HOUSING
Park housing is NOT available. The intern will be responsible for finding housing in the nearby area.
Housing may be available in the form of a RV camping pad.
