The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. The National Hypertension Control Initiatives Clinical Quality Improvement team is looking for an intern to provide support to and collaborate with the NHCI Clinical Quality Improvement team through various strategies and tactics for research, vetting clinical processes, reviewing and editing process documents and reports and performing administrative and quality improvement duties.

Internship Overview:
- Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
- Internship Duration: 1/17/2023 – 5/5/2023
- Remote Position
Responsibilities
- Provide ideas to support strategic clinical quality improvement plans for health center engagements, deployment of NHCI clinical assets, curriculum design, clinical process evaluation, and Clinical Quality Improvement activities
- Assist team to develop and improve tools and resources in support of health centers implementing a Self-Measured Blood Pressure program and NHCI clinical training and technical assistance activities.
- Assist with scribing for engagements with internal and external stakeholders
- Other clinical quality improvement activities as needed
Qualifications
- Candidates who are juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in Nursing, Biology, Health Science, Healthcare administration, or Community Health
- Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills
- Knowledge of AP style writing
- Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs with the ability to produce charts and graphs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional interaction with colleagues.
- Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Self-starter with good organizational skills, effective communication skills and experience with research design
- Minimum availability 20hrs/wk, M-F during normal business hours

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:
• Basic American Heart Association knowledge
• Understanding of health disparity and health equity, public health, community health centers, community-based organizations
• Strong awareness of and interest in current events, pop culture, social media trends (including emerging platforms) and what’s in the news related to health care, heart disease, stroke, and nonprofit organizations
• Knowledge of Public Relations experience
• Self-motivated, resourceful, problem-solving, and solutions-oriented approach
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and seek assistance in a timely manner
• Teamwork skills and the ability to work with other staff, taking project direction quickly
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
