Government Relations Communications Internship - Waco, TX

Position Overview

The Government Relations Communications Intern will be responsible for creating, improving and maintaining content to support the overall Government Relations Communications strategy for CRH Americas Materials Division and achieve our overall business goals. The Intern will seek to increase employee engagement and understanding, awareness, inspire multi-directional communication across multiple channels, and support change management initiatives. This role requires excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to interact with multiple stakeholders in a production and office environment to take projects from conception to completion.

This position will also be responsible for the production of company newsletters (print and electronic), managing social media platforms, maintaining intranet sites and external websites, managing, supporting the Government Relations Communications team with content for multi-channel distribution and expanding the company’s social media presence

As a Government Relations Communication Intern, you should perform well under deadlines and be detail oriented. This position will be based out of the Atlanta HQ office and can be worked remotely if not in the Atlanta area.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Create, refine, and publish social media content that builds meaningful stakeholder connections, and encourages community members to engage with the CRH Americas Materials Division.
  • Write a variety of different content to support communications efforts, including but not limited to companies’ newsletters, website copy, social media, and employee apps.
  • Manage external vendors to complete projects and / or maintain current programs.
  • Create editorial calendars for social media, website blogs, and publications.
  • Support in the development of studio-quality photographs and videos focused on safety, and marketing.
  • Assist in the creation of promotional materials for marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain company external websites and intranet. Gather content to improve company pages through internal communication, case studies, etc.
  • Manage incoming communications from external sources including social media and company website where applicable.
  • Monitor and report on data/metrics and activities from digital platforms.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices.
  • Write copy for various external and internal communications.
  • Work with line of business leaders to obtain coverage of company projects.
  • Aid in the development of presentations for internal and external use.
  • Coordinate workshops, special events and other gatherings.
  • Participate and speak at local and regional events, charities and community outreach programs to increase awareness of the organization.
  • Development of editorial governance so content is consistent with our brand voice, style and tone.
  • Use content management systems to analyze website traffic and users engagement metrics.
  • Channel management of digital content hubs and all supporting social channels including email / newsletter distribution.
  • Actively hunt, gather and tell stories — see connections where others don’t.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times in dealing with highly critical and confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • Other duties as may be assigned. 


Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with course work in political science, communications, marketing, public relations or related field.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience required.


Work Requirements

  • Must have intermediate level experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with Access preferred, but not required.
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

  • Highly organized & proactive with strong ownership sensibility and a true passion for content curation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills – Oral and written.
  • Interpersonal savvy- Relates well to all levels of people in and out of the organization.
  • Attention to detail; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Project management skills and understanding how to manage the priorities of multiple stakeholders in a complex environment and focus on the delivery of quality results.
