Forensic Science Research Assistant (Remote)

The Center for Integrity in Forensic Sciences (CIFS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fairness in forensic science, crime labs and the courtroom, seeks a creative and self-motivated individual for a remote Forensic Science Research Assistant Internship. Founded by three of the lawyers featured in Netflix's Making a Murderer, CIFS seeks to ensure that the science presented in criminal cases is fair and accurate.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world problems. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Forensic Science Analyst on specific topics of forensic science to aid in education and reform in the legal system. We seek a candidate with knowledge or experience with forensic science and at least a moderate level of experience in research. The intern will work with studies, reports, and data to help understand each discipline as a whole and its validity. Through this work, the intern will gain experience in forensic science, data collection and analysis, communication, research, and learn about criminal justice reform and advocacy.

The internship is designed to be educational and practical. The intern will:
·       Use personal or professional knowledge of forensic science and research
·       Learn about our organization to aid in research
·       Create reports that are digestible for the average individual
·       Learn what works when sorting and compiling data
·       Expand experience in research analysis
·       Learn about the validity of certain forensic science disciplines

Requirements:
  • Experience or education in forensic science
  • Experience reading technical reports within forensic science with an understanding of the literature
  • Experience in researching topics with lots of literature and materials
The internship is unpaid and available immediately. CIFS can help interns obtain college credit, if available from your school. Liberal arts, criminal justice, public affairs, business, marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or English majors are encouraged to apply, as well as anyone who wishes to branch into the fundraising/development industry.

The Center for Integrity in Forensic Sciences is an equal opportunity employer and strives for diversity among its applicants as well as within its staff and board. We strongly encourage people from all backgrounds, especially racial, ethnic, gender and sexual orientation minorities, veterans, people with disabilities, and smart people with non-linear/non-traditional experience and educational backgrounds to apply for this position. Most importantly, no matter their background, the person selected for this position must embrace, advocate for, and deeply value equity, diversity, and inclusivity.
