Developmental Specialist - Children's Developmental Disabilities Program - North Hub

Do you have a passion for working with children and families? The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare's Division of Family and Community Services is currently recruiting for a Developmental Specialist to work in Children's Developmental Disabilities Program in the North Hub. This position can be based out of our Coeur d’Alene, Moscow, Lewiston, Ponderay, or Sandpoint field office, depending on selected candidate.

This position will provide case management for children in the Developmental Disabilities Program. Other duties will include assisting with developing family plans by conducting family planning meetings, interacting with various agencies, helping young adults transition to adulthood, providing training and information to internal and external partners, and knowing and understanding IDAPA surrounding the Traditional and Family Directed Pathways for Children's Developmental Disability Services. We are seeking applicants who have a broad range of knowledge and experience in a professional setting, including experience collaborating with external and internal agencies, providing assessment, and some knowledge of evidence-based treatments.

This position will be responsible for covering Regions 1 (Coeur d'Alene area) and 2 (Lewiston area). Regular travel between the two regions will be required. Teleworking options are available.

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Developmental Specialist making $23.31/hour to an estimated $34.33/hour.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Example of Duties
  • Educate families on Children's Developmental Disabilities Services as well as other services for which their child may be eligible. 
  • Tracking and following up with referrals to the program.
  • Creating and maintaining resource lists and training documents.
  • Utilize family centered planning methods to facilitate planning between families, providers, and advocates. 
  • Develop and revise children's service plans. 
  • Provide complex case management and services for children and families with higher needs. 
  • Assist families in navigating a smooth transition to adulthood for their child. 
  • Monitor activities to assure service plan is successfully implemented. 
  • Ensure children's case files are accurate and maintained. 
  • Encourage and empower positive and productive relationships among the family centered planning team. 
  • Coordinate cases with other department programs and outside agencies.
  • Participate in community trainings and outreach.
  • Support families, internal partners, and external partners during crises.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A college degree (bachelor's or master's) in special education, psychology, communication disorders, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, or other closely related curriculum: including specialized training in developmental disabilities or at least one year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities or a combination of specialized training and experience.
  • Experience selecting, administering, and interpreting test instruments designed to assess developmental disabilities in adults and/or children.
  • Experience making oral presentations. 
  • Some knowledge of training methods.
