Research Assistant I – Military HIV Research Program

HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MHRP.
Performs research in collaboration with others for projects initiated in the laboratories of Dr. Morgane Rolland at the U.S. Military HIV Research Program in the Viral Genomic Section and Systems Serology Core: https://www.hivresearch.org/ourteam/morgane-rolland-phd  
The lab focuses on understanding infectious disease dynamics, particularly for HIV-1, and translating this knowledge to develop vaccines. The applicant will conduct laboratory assays. Relevant skills desired include some of the following: 1) PCR amplification and sequencing (Sanger or deep sequencing); 2) molecular cloning; 3) bacterial or mammalian cell culture.

Responsibilities

  • Performs research projects, including the collection and organization of data. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices. 
  • Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices. 
  • Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data. 
  • Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Creates and communicates detailed observations on experiments. 
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 
  • A minimum of 0-2 years of experience is required. 
Work Environment: 
  • Lab Environment.
Work Arrangement:
  • This position is 100% on site and has no teleworking capability.
Background/Security:
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
