Are you looking for a position that offers a rewarding lifelong career filled with new and exciting challenges? P&G is looking for a Corporate Functions Analytical (Elemental Analysis/Chromatographer)—PhD Intern- Analytical Chemist.

Corporate Functions Analytical (Elemental Analysis/Chromatographer)—PhD Intern- Analytical Chemist

The Trace Analysis Capability (TAC) section is seeking a highly motivated individual to develop methods that will produce chemical transparency knowledge about our raw materials, intermediates, and finished products to drive innovation. The intern will focus their work on the use of chromatography (HPLC) techniques coupled with elemental analysis (EA) capabilities/expertise like ICP-OES and ICP-MS to develop methods capable of separating elemental species in product and raw material. The TAC laboratories house the most advanced EA instrumentation in the consumer products industry and are often the final resource for complex measurements not achievable by other labs. As a result, TAC provides critical measurements for human & environmental safety and delivers on P&G’s commitment to “radical chemical transparency” of our products

Important Responsibilities of Job:

During a summer internship (10-12 weeks), interns will partner closely with elemental experts to execute, summarize, and report critical scientific findings about P&G products. Taking the next step in “radical transparency" in elemental analysis requires the use of “hyphenated” analytical techniques, which employ multiple techniques coupled together including wet chemistry sample preparation, chromatographic separation (HPLC), ultra-selective detectors (ICP-MS/ ICP-OES) to gain specific information about the species (form) of elements in product.

The person in this role will work to create new analytical methods that can be applied across multiple businesses at P&G. By leveraging the high-end instrumentation at P&G including chromatography (HPLC), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and other elemental analysis techniques these new methods will be deployed to address urgent business needs. This role is an in lab-focused position requiring superb attention to detail, abilities to maintain/improve research processes, great collaboration skills, and ideally hands-on experience with elemental analysis quantitation or chromatography.

Job Qualifications

    * All interested candidates must be currently enrolled in PhD program in a STEM field such as Chemistry (Organic, Inorganic, Bio, Analytical, Physical), Life Science (Biology, Microbiology, bioinformatics, toxicology, pharmacology), Environmental Science (Earth, space) or a related field.
    * Passionate about hands-on experimental work and demonstrated track record of leading, building and testing technical hypothesis.
    * Demonstrated practical lab experience including sample preparation/field work/sample collection, developing and/or executing analytical methodologies, and designing experiments to answer scientifically relevant questions.
    * Skilled in resolving laboratory issues, critical thinking and problem solving.
    * Ability to clearly communicate of scientific results via presentations, abstracts and/or publications.
    * Ability to embrace change by manage multiple priorities at any given time and is adaptable to different approaches to projects/people.
    * Collaborative team player with the ability to work in a multi-functional organization

Desired Qualifications:

    * Applied laboratory experience specifically using high-end instrumentations Including ICP-MS, ICP-OES, chromatography (LC-MS or GC-MS)
    * Computer & Data Science Skills – Familiarity and proficiency in instrument control software and data management systems. Leveraging a programing language to activate and communicate scientific results effectively.

Skills Needed to Perform This Job:

Ability to focus on detail and the precision/accuracy needed for execution of analytical methodologies. Good documentation of work and interpretation of scientific results. Scientific problem solving and passion for in lab excellence. Elemental analysis and/or chromatography knowledge & lab experience. Experience with current high end analytical instrumentation including instrument software. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and be an exceptional partner.

Skills You Can Expect to Learn/Build in This Job:

Expand toolbox of multiple analytical detection methodologies. Enhance problem solving skills by gaining industry experience in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Develop challenging measurement methods, design sophisticated experimental plans, and interpret convoluted data. Build deep analytical mastery.
