Internship Description:
The DV/FL undergraduate will primarily have administrative duties, such as; scanning, copying documents, shredding documents, mailing out documents and correspondence to clients, reminding clients of appointments and any other administrative support for the team. The undergraduate internship will also include opportunities to work on legal projects, such as: accompanying clients to court as an advocate, translating documents, and conducting outreach to the community. Preference towards Undergraduate Interns who are able to work in the Maryland office.
 
The Spring internship lasts from mid-January 2023 through late April 2023. We have 1 intern spots available within our Legal Department – Domestic Violence / Family Law Team for our Spring 2023 cohort at our Silver Spring, MD office.
 
Department/Individuals Assisting: Ayuda’s Legal Department – Domestic Violence / Family Law Team
 
Responsible to: Kathryn Serrano, DVFL Paralegal & Cheryl Chado, DVFL Managing Attorney
 
Responsibilities: The ideal candidate is an independent self-starter, who is detail-oriented, high organized, and has a passion for serving migrants and their families. The undergraduate intern will assist with general administrative, and clerical work for the MD Staff Attorney and Paralegal, including filing, photocopying, answering phones, shipping and mailing, drafting general correspondence and translating documents There will also be opportunities to attend and observe Weekly Case Review Meetings, events, and court proceedings.
 
Position Qualifications:
Required:
●     Currently enrolled in undergraduate program
●     Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
●     Excellent interpersonal skills. Outreach will be a significant portion of the internship to executives, case managers, and clients.
●     Results oriented with the ability to meet self-imposed deadlines.
●     Creativity with a desire to present and try out new ideas.
●     Be a team player and work effectively with others, including Ayuda staff and external individuals.
●     Be receptive to feedback and willing to make necessary changes or adjustments to your work.
 
Preferred:
●     Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish
●     Technical experience in any of the following: Outlook, Microsoft Office,  
●     Previous document translation experience.
●     Social media savvy and experience with Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms.
●     Based in the Silver Spring, region. Able to report to the office a couple time a week.
●     A valid driving license and access to a vehicle
 
Commitment: We are looking for Spring Interns who can dedicate at least 16 - 20 hours per week for 12-14 weeks to provide administrative and programmatic support. The internship would begin mid-to-late January and wrap up by the end of April. The exact start and end dates are flexible. Interns generally work at least two days per week with at least a few days in office needed monthly.
 
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship perfect for undergraduate, graduate, and law students looking to gain professional work experience in a very supportive environment committed to having a positive impact. We will work with your institution or university to ensure that you are able to receive academic credit for the internship if applicable.
 
Technology Needed: We will provide the intern with a laptop, and they will need to have access to reliable internet connection on remote days for video conferences and email communication.
