Wealth Management Intern - Virginia Beach

WEALTH MANAGEMENT INTERN

Summary Expectations
The Wealth Management Intern is a paid temporary non-exempt position designed to provide practical work experience in different functional areas of the firm. The Intern will gain understanding of financial advising and planning, relationship management, operations, and investment management. The internship will be based in Cary Street Partners’ Virginia Beach office.

This internship will be 35 - 40 hours per week and eight weeks in duration. Following is a general outline for the internship that may change according to the needs of the firm and interests of the intern.

Week 1-2 Introduction to Wealth Management
  • Learn Black Diamond portfolio management software, Salentica CRM software, and Schwab custodial platform software to understand basics of client account management.
  • Shadow team members to learn how trades, ACH transfers, wire transfers, service requests, and journals are executed.
  • Interview client service associates, financial advisors, investment analyst, and operations personnel to learn about different roles within the firm.

Week 3-4 Operations & Systems
  • Focus on the systems used to manage client accounts and relationships.
  • Assist with data analytics projects.
  • Develop customized internship project that will be presented to the team upon the completion of the internship.

Week 5-6 Investment Management
  • Shadow investment analyst to gain knowledge about investment philosophy, process, and trading.

Week 7-8 Wealth Management
  • Assist in preparation for client meetings, financial planning, and learn process to prepare for annual review.
  • Prepare and deliver internship project presentation to the team.

Skills & Experience
  • Business or Finance student pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous experience working in financial services preferred but not required.

  • Collaborative team-oriented approach and strong communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively on multiple projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs, especially Excel and Word.
