2023-2024 K-8th Grade Teachers

Position Title: Certified Teacher
Classification: Exempt
Immediate Supervisor: Principal/Assistant Principal
Position Overview:
RESD teachers collaboratively develop and implement STEM2 curriculum and lesson plans and present those lessons to their students, individually, in small groups or whole class. Teachers track the progress of their students and communicate with parents regularly about their student’s progress. Teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe, organized and respectful classroom environment in order to optimize student learning.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities
A. Implementation of STEM2 Instructional Program and Student Progress Reporting
1. Teachers share primary responsibility for implementing the district's required STEM2 curriculum, as approved and adopted by the Governing Board.
2. Each teacher shall be provided with a copy of the STEM2 curriculum units at the beginning of each school year which shall include the key district policies and procedures relating to implementation of the instructional program.
3. Teachers will be required to prepare and have available for review their weekly lesson plans aligned to the Arizona Academic Standards and in the required format as described by the School Principal.
4. All teachers will be required to submit substitute lesson plans which will be updated as needed or upon request by the School Principal.
5. Teachers are expected to maintain up-to-date grade books which record student achievement on classroom assignments, quizzes, tests, projects and other assigned activities utilizing the school district's standard based report card on a weekly basis through the use of district’s SIS System.
6. Teachers are expected to instruct and guide student achievement utilizing their student data generated by such assessments as, Galileo, DIBELS, and teacher’s formative assessments toward meeting the district mandated competencies and grade-level goals for each content area for each student.
7. Teachers are required to follow all state and district testing guidelines.
8. Teachers will prepare and disseminate progress reports and report cards according to district guidelines and procedures.
9. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the School Principal and/or District Administration.

B. Supervision of Students
1. Teachers are expected to provide a classroom environment that protects the health, safety and welfare of all students by creating an engaging student learning environment.
2. The adopted school discipline guidelines will be utilized by teachers in all classrooms.
3. Teachers will be responsible for providing adequate supervision of students inside/outside the classroom, hallways, during sporting activities, assemblies, special events and events being held at the school during or after regular school hours.

C. School Operations
1. Teachers will assist in the maintenance of student records, including attendance, student academic portfolios, student cumulative folders and other administrative records required by the district or School Principal.
2. Teachers will share the responsibility for the care of equipment and instructional materials assigned or allocated to their classrooms and will assist administration in the maintenance of up-to-date inventory lists.

D. Participation in Professional Development
1. Each teacher will be required to participate in district or school scheduled professional development during the normal workday.
2. Professional development may require teachers to stay past the normal workday.
3. Teachers can be required to participate in professional development activities/programs as prescribed by the School Principal.

E. Parent Communication/Involvement
1. Teachers are expected to maintain positive, professional relationships with parents. Teachers are to communicate with parents regarding academic progress and student behavior on a regular basis or as determined by the School Principal.
2. Teachers will be required to attend scheduled evening Parent-Teacher Conferences at the school as determined by School Principal.
3. Teachers will be required to attend all Parent-Teacher meetings and functions at the school in addition to Parent-Teacher Conferences, Meet the Teacher Day/Night, Open House, Curriculum Night, special events at the school, etc.

F. Professionalism
1. Teachers are expected to conduct themselves in a positive and professional manner at all times reflective within the operation of the district.
2. Teachers are required to dress and communicate in a professional manner when representing RESD as outlined in the District Employee Handbook.

Education
• Bachelor Degree in Education
• Advanced degree in Instruction and Curriculum
• Reading and/or Mathematics Endorsements

Licenses or Certifications
• A valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
• Appropriately Certified as defined by ADE in content area and/or grade-level
• SEI Endorsement
• ESL and/or Bilingual Endorsement
• A valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
• National Board Certification preferred

Experience
• Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population
• Experience working with minority and ELL students
• Experience with STEM2
• Experience with technology
• Experience in curriculum development

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
• Moderate to advanced technology experience and training.
• Ability to speak, write and read Spanish fluently.
• Advanced training in instruction, curriculum, technology integration and/or student management.
• Ability to work as a highly effective team member.
• Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, families and the community.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues.
• Demonstrates effective classroom management.
• Able to connect learning to real-world situations.
• Ability to reflect on own teaching practice for continuous improvement.
• Knowledgeable in analyzing student data.
• Knowledgeable of Arizona Academic Standards

Working Environment
• The work environment is a normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate.
• The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust and extreme seasonal temperatures.

Terms of Employment
• Nine-months, Certified-Exempt; benefits in accordance with Governing Board policies.

Evaluation
Teacher performance is to be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board policy per the evaluation instrument for certified staff to include but not limited to the following:
• Faculty Performance Folio
• Student Academic Portfolios
• 50% of teacher overall evaluation will be based on student achievement as detailed in the school’s IAP
• STEM2 Walk-Through Instrument
• Formal Faculty Performance Observation Instrument
• State Testing, AZELLA, Galileo, DIBELS and other State or District assessment results
• Attendance
• Parent Communication and Involvement
• Community Participation
• Parent Surveys and Student Surveys

District Expectations
