Intern, Small Molecule Formulation Development

The Opportunity
Denali Therapeutics has an exciting opportunity for a summer intern to work in the small molecule formulation development team within our Technical Operations and Manufacturing group. During the internship, the candidate will gain an understanding of the pharmaceutical manufacturing processes used in the manufacture of solid (and liquid) oral dosage forms. The intern will get an opportunity to learn the use of lab scale equipment to produce solid oral dosage forms. This is a hands-on laboratory position with an exciting opportunity to learn and understand the various formulation development processes used in developing and manufacturing small molecule drug products. The intern will also be exposed to the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) side of pharmaceutical drug development. At the end of the program, the candidate will have the opportunity to present his/her work to colleagues within the organization. The ideal candidate has a strong passion for formulation development and enjoys working within a collaborative team setting.

Responsibilities
  • Work under supervision of Denali Scientist(s) to design, execute, and interpret development experiments 
  • Perform in-process tests such as bulk/tap density, friability etc.
  • Learn to use lab scale equipment such as extruder-spheronizer, granulator, tablet press etc.
  • Help with analytical method development and relevant lab work if needed.
  • Read the relevant literature and gain familiarity with using various tools for literature search such as PubMed, ScienceDirect etc.
  • Accurately record data in an electronic notebook and be highly organized
  • Communicate results and findings to the supervisor 

Position requirements:
  • Pursuing degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related field (BS, MS, or PhD) with significant interest in formulation development
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory skills such as material weighing, and safe lab practices
  • Excellent oral, and written communication skills
