Zero Hunger Summer Internship

The Zero Hunger Internship is a full-time, paid summer leadership development opportunity for college students and recent graduates and is a program of the Congressional Hunger Center. It is designed for individuals who are interested in federal anti-hunger policy. Interns work at global and domestic anti-hunger organizations in Washington, D.C., for 10 weeks. In addition to participating in leadership development training, participants also attend a Summer Seminar Series about hunger, public policy, and advocacy. The program allows undergraduate students or individuals who have graduated December 2022 or after a paid opportunity for on-the-job training and a robust learning experience.

Candidates apply to the Zero Hunger Program and are matched by the Congressional Hunger Center with internship placements in Washington, D.C. Zero Hunger Interns also complete a research project on a hunger topic of their choosing and present their findings to stakeholders of the Hunger Center at the end of the program. The dual goals of the program are to build the capacity of organizations fighting hunger and to develop interns into anti-hunger leaders who will return to their communities ready to advocate for a hunger-free future.

 

Zero Hunger Internship placements may focus on program implementation, development and fundraising, policy analysis, advocacy, communications, or nonprofit operations.

The Hunger Center seeks talented applicants with a variety of interests and backgrounds who are dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty in the U.S. and around the world. STIPEND: You will receive a stipend of up to $6,500 to offset the cost of living in Washington, D.C.

During their service, the Hunger Center provides Zero Hunger Interns with: 

·      Financial support: Each intern receives a financial package designed to support their living expenses in Washington, D.C. for 10 weeks. Interns will receive a stipend of up to $6,500

·      Leadership development training

·      Membership in a dynamic learning cohort of interns: Interns will conduct research and attend the Summer Seminar Series as a cohort. Interns possess a variety of racial, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds and bring to the cohort a diversity of work experiences and expertise. Accordingly, each internship cohort comprises a valuable learning community.

·      Connection to an extensive network: Interns will have access to the Hunger Center’s network of alums, partners, and experts, including participants from our Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship and Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellowship.
