Research & Development Internship - Basic Science
Location: Gaithersburg, MD
We are currently seeking rising undergraduate sophomores, juniors, seniors, master or PhD-level students working towards a degree in chemistry, biology, or bioengineering for a 10-12 week internship during the summer of 2023.
Objectives/Goals of the Position:
Provide hands-on experiences through laboratory experiments and drug development-related research: specifically developing /optimizing disulfide bond mapping methods to robustly determine protein disulfide linkages by mass spectrometry.
Primary Duties:
- Develop experimental plans/protocols with guidance and execute experiments.
- Develop and optimize disulfide bond mapping method (non-reduced peptide mapping) by MS.
- Design and perform redox experiment to evaluate disulfide bond stability.
- Work in highly collaborative manner in a multidisciplinary team in a matrix- environment.
- Write protocols, methods and provide scientific interpretation of results.
- Present data at lab/departmental meetings.
Requirements:
- Rising undergraduate sophomores, juniors, seniors, master or PhD-level students working towards a degree in chemistry, biology, or bioengineering.
- Experience working in a BSL-1/2 laboratory.
- Experience using micropipettes, GxP documentation.
- Basic understanding of proteins and their structures.
- Basic understanding of chemistry and impact of buffer systems on protein charge separation.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0+
