Learning Centers Assistant Director

Position Purpose and Description:
The position is in support of the Director of the Learning Centers, providing both independent duties as assigned and serving as a support staff colleague for the Learning Centers.
  • Participates in the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising tutors and testing center proctors to provide academic support for students across the University.
  • Oversees and trains tutors for tutor registry (private and one on one tutors).
  • Maintains day to day operations of Testing Center.
  • Responsible for staff assimilation and scheduling and maintaining personnel matters for tutors and graduate assistants.
  • Maintains and enhances Learning Centers’ websites.
  • Coordinates outreach, programming and social media in conjunction with Tutor Council and campus partners.
  • Creation and Implementation of standing workshops and convocation calendar.
  • Trains staff in the creation of online materials, resources and videos with workshops, one on one sessions and up to date knowledge of new technological and digital advances.
  • Creation and coordination of supplemental instruction program.
  • Supports the Learning Centers’ mission, vision and standards.
  • Provides support for Commencement, Hooding, and other occasional activities and events that may occur on evenings and weekends.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  Required EducationMust have a bachelor's degree with University or Campus Learning Center background (MS in math or education preferred).  Required ExperienceRequires a minimum of 3 years' experience tutoring in an academic higher education student support center setting, with some administrative experience strongly preferred.  Working Conditions & Physical RequirementsThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
