Chemist

We are seeking an entry level Chemist with excellent written communication skills who is passionate about problem solving and water treatment. If you enjoy a combination of hands-on laboratory work and procedural documentation and reporting in a collaborative and fun team atmosphere, this may be a good fit for you.

LOCATION: This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Elliston, VA. We are conveniently located off of route 460 and interstate 81 between Roanoke and Christiansburg. This position's workspace is inside the laboratory. As needed, a cubicle space is available for work outside the lab.

THE WORK: You will work closely with two other Chemists to perform treatability studies on industrial wastewater from manufacturing facilities all over the country to develop the most effective treatment program for that customer.
We offer custom-tailored treatment solutions. The treatability testing and related R&D projects allow us to solve industry's toughest wastewater treatment challenges. We "work for water" every day, doing our part to protect our nation's waterways. This position is part of the overall Engineering group at ProChem.
Testing includes chemical treatment, membrane evaluations, and ion-exchange treatment. This position assists with generating reports that are consumed by multiple parties including our potential and current customers. The reports include factors such as treatment data, ROI, capital costs, recurring costs, feasibility, scalability, reuse potential, waste reduction, and so on. This position will also provide overall support to all laboratory personnel by washing glassware, maintaining instrumentation, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized workspace.

HOURS: Regular business hours. 8-hour minimum workday expectation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (BS or BA)
  • Some hands-on experience outside of the educational setting (such as an internship)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory instrumentations such as UV Spec, IC, and ICP
  • Problem solving and problem analysis experience
  • Report writing experience

PAY & BENEFITS: This is a full-time position with full benefits. This position is paid on a salary basis, on a bi-weekly cycle. The position is exempt from overtime pay due to the technical and administrative nature of the work. The actual starting pay will be based on multiple factors such as the amount of relevant experience.
The PAY RANGE for the life of the position is: $48,000 - $60,000
Future growth opportunity may be available for the successful employee as a Treatability Chemist.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT & DEMANDS:
  • This position requires sitting or standing for extended periods with bending, stooping, walking, reaching, and use of step stool required regularly
  • You will work with hazardous chemicals and compounds and will utilize PPE
  • You will be working around electricity, water, plumbing equipment, and a variety of chemicals used in wastewater treatment
  • Daily computer use is required
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 pounds may be necessary
  • This position may require flexibility in work hours, vacation, and other schedule considerations to successfully support the needs of the company
