STEAM in AI Mentor

About the Program

DataEthics4All Foundation’s STEAM in AI Research & Build College Prep Program matches a high school student with a College student for 1:1 Experiential Learning & Career Mentoring in Data Science, AI & STEAM that they’d perhaps pursue as a career. 

The program is designed for students thinking about STEAM careers such as Medicine or Engineering but also for careers in Business, Arts, Music, History, Physiology, Social Sciences, Policy and more because technology is going to intersect with all of those fields even more so in the future. 

We’ve designed this Program to equip students with the skills they need for jobs that don’t exist today whether or not they consider themselves as Math or Coding Champions. 

This is a great opportunity for high school students to sign up as a Mentee, learn about new nonlinear STEAM careers, get practical experience through a hands-on project in research, work with datasets or build an application and boost their profile for college applications.

DataEthics4All Foundation is on a mission to break barriers of entry in Tech for Girls, People of Color and the economically disadvantaged and offers need based scholarships so students can take advantage of the program 100% free.

We're helping high school students explore STEAM and AI Career Pathways to help build an equitable, diverse and inclusive future workforce with Ethics 1st Tech Champions.

Also a great opportunity for College Students to sign up as a Mentor, get paid and create impact. 

About the role

DataEthics4All Foundation is looking for STEAM in AI Mentors. Mentors can be enrolled in a Ph.D., Graduate or an Undergraduate Program at a College or a University.

Your Responsibilities as a Mentor:

  • Meet with your mentee: 1 complimentary introductory meeting + 10 times every 3-4 weeks for 1 hour over the duration of 6-10 months to help guide them with the next steps on their project.
  • Guide your mentees to learn how to learn.
  • Through this program we hope to pass from mentor to mentee ways and methods to approach a new problem they aren’t familiar with, how to look at a problem from different perspectives, how to read papers, organizing results/work, and presenting findings.
  • Discuss project updates, goals and action plans to work in between meetings and arrange regular meetings with mentees, based upon your availability and ensure clear project completion dates are agreed upon.
  • Value the mentee as an individual and develop mutual trust and respect.
  • Help the mentee by providing direction and guidance for their project.
  • Provide advice and resources to mentee as appropriate and make appropriate adjustments to meet their needs.

Skills and Experience

-Prior experience of working with young people, whether on a paid or voluntary basis would be beneficial.

-Some experience of working or volunteering as a mentor would be helpful.

-Some experience in the field of STEAM in AI as part of an internship or in a research position at university would be helpful

-You are working towards a bachelor's or Masters in a related discipline [Social sciences, Psychology, Humanities, Arts, Sciences, Engineering, Computer Sciences].

-You are knowledgeable about our organization, the work DataEthics4All Foundation does and it's Mission.

-You are able to mentor young people both 1:1 and in groups confidently. 

-You possess excellent organizational and time management skills.

-You know how and when to intervene where a student may require help/support and respond sensitively.

-You are someone that demonstrates excellent Interpersonal skills, listening skills, excellent Problem-solving skills, Communication skills, Assertiveness, Resilience.

-You have a non-judgmental approach, and an ability to relate to young people and act as a role model, nurturing their spiritual, moral, social and cultural well-being.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Some experience as a mentor with high school, undergrad or adult students would be beneficial
