The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church, located conveniently on metro and transit bus lines in Arlington, VA, is in search of unpaid interns to assist with communications and digital content.

For students seeking a stimulating and exciting environment in which to apply and build their skills and experience, our office is worth your consideration. Commonwealth's Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti believes that "safety and justice are not opposite values -- we can't have one without the other," and what she and her team of attorneys, paralegals, and victim witness advocates are doing to ensure public safety reflects this core belief. Since taking office in January 2020, Ms. Dehghani-Tafti has updated and streamlined discovery practices, established vertical prosecution teams, created a Community Advisory Board, partnered with the Vera Institute for anti-racism staff training, obtained federal funding to promote diversion and restorative practices, and established the first conviction review unit in a Virginia commonwealth's attorney's office.

The focus of this internship is to engage the community and transparency of government through communications strategy. The intern would be drafting press releases, keeping track of important cases, drafting social media posts, attending events with the Commonwealth's Attorney to report on them, gathering and circulating press clippings, and drafting The Justice Digest newsletter, which includes reporting on major initiatives, cases, and legislation as well as interviewing staff for special staff spotlights. Familiarity with data is helpful.
