Financial Analyst, FP&A Analyst Team

Job Summary:

This role participates in a broad range of financial planning and analysis activities to provide valuable insights, solutions and services to our internal customers. These include, but are not limited to, financial modeling, the development and generation of insightful financial analyses, reporting, the annual budget/quarterly forecast process and ad hoc initiatives. This associate must be an analytical thinker with strong communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains models and tools to support effective and efficient analysis
  • Provide decision support through valued added analysis and financial insights
  • Work with multiple internal teams to gain a deeper understanding of financial data, to confirm assumptions, and validate output of analyses
  • Supports the organization in opportunity identification, data-based decision-making and performance assessment
  • Produce clear reports that summarize financial output, issues and recommendations
  • Supports reporting needs of the broader organization to provide increased visibility of financial performance
  • Identifies continuous process improvements 
  • Documents standard processes and process flows 
  • Supports the compilation and analysis of the annual budget and quarterly forecast
  • Participate in ad hoc initiatives as they arise
  • Travel to other Markel offices, conferences, etc. as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline
  • CPCU or other industry designations a plus
  • 0-2 years of related experiences or applicable internships
  • Understanding of financial processes and systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have strong Excel and data manipulation skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Organized with ability to multi-task
  • Adaptable and comfortable with fast pace and shifting priorities

Please note:  Markel has a phased approach for re-entry into our buildings that is designed to balance the ongoing health, safety, and well-being of our employees with operational considerations and regulatory/ governmental requirements and recommendations.  Effective 10/1/21 we have implemented a hybrid return to work strategy that allows for three days in the office every week.
