ERISA Associate

CBIZ Kansas City ERISA Associate Job Description
The ERISA Associate will work as a member of the audit department to gain an understanding of and assist in planning and fieldwork phases of employee benefit plan (EBP) audit engagements. In addition, the associate will spend some time in the Retirement Plan Solutions group and will be responsible for handling aspects of qualified 401(k) retirement plan administration for defined contribution plans for small businesses, including government filings. The associate should expect to be responsible for many engagements, and possess the ability to cultivate strong relationships with clients, plan sponsors and advisors. Candidates should have accounting experience, strong problem-solving skills, organizational and critical thinking skills, time management and customer service skills, and should place an emphasis on high-quality work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
·      Gain an understanding and assist in planning multiple EBP audit assignments for MHM
·      Complete aspects of accounting and compliance for qualified retirement plans
·      Execute solid understanding of accounting principles, general tax regulations, ERISA, technology implementation procedures, etc. relative to individual client assignments
·      Adhere to engagement budget constraints and complete assigned tasks within the time requested
·      Strive to attain charge hour goals
·      Participate in client assignments from beginning to end.
·      Participate in early practice development activities such as: membership in qualified organization capable of referring potential engagements
·      Identify and communicate audit issues, technical matters and improvement opportunities with senior associates, managers and partners to resolve client issues discovered during the audit process.
·      Pledge to provide exceptional service to every client by providing individual attention, responsiveness and commitment to understanding their goals and needs.
·      Expectation to achieve industry credentials such as CPA, QKA
·      Maintain and comply with the highest degree of professional standards, client confidentiality and personal conduct.
·      Additional responsibilities as assigned
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
·      Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field preferred.
·      Internship experience in accounting or related field preferred.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
·      Bachelor's degree required
·      CPA eligible; desire to obtain certification is required
·      Excellent interpersonal, analytical, research and audit project management skills, including knowledge of GAAP, Taxation compliance, codes and regulations and GAAS rules, procedures and standards.
·      Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
·      Ability to multi-task, think independently and problem solve in a results-driven team-oriented environment.
·      Strong verbal and written communications skills.
·      Strong computer and technical skills including, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, intranet and audit software.
·      Must be able to travel based on client and business needs.
