Library Branch Manager

The City of Bryan, Texas is currently accepting applications for Library Branch Manager. This position oversees and manages the activities and daily operations of the Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station, TX, a branch of the Bryan/College Station Public Library System.

Reports to:
Library System Director

Hiring Rate:
$65,000-$78,000/yr (depending on experience).

Duties include:
  • Coordinates and directs the selection, promotion, training, delegation, time approval, performance review, mentoring, counseling, and discipline of personnel at the branch library.
  • Ensures employees are prepared, motivated, productive, and challenged in their work assignments to ensure maximum performance.
  • Assists in planning and developing the collection of the branch library; reads reviews and other bibliographic sources and selects new titles for branch collections; reviews book collection for condition, use and selection of appropriate replacements.
  • Directs and performs public service duties at the branch, including assisting patrons, while promoting good customer service; Serves as the main contact for all online queries and online library card registrations.
  • Directs, reviews and participates in the cataloging of books, periodicals, audio-visual materials and other library materials, and in the preparation of book lists and bibliographies.
  • Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints from library patrons.
  • Maintains a current awareness of the literature and services of the branch.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Recommends and administers departmental policies and procedures and ensures employee compliance with City and library policies and procedures; ensures safe working practices among staff.
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of the branch library goals and objectives.
  • Maintains established branch operating budget; ensures spending and purchases are within the approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Compose reports of activities, usage, operational statistics, etc. of branch operation.
  • Acts as a liaison with building maintenance to ensure repair and maintenance of facility.
  • Collaborates with the Library System Director on grants development, grant writing and related activities.
  • Maintains membership in Texas Library Association and participates in its activities; keeps informed of current trends and developments affecting libraries.
  • Performs related duties as required.
