Laboratory Support Technician (3rd shift)

Laboratory Support Technician

Summary:
The Laboratory Support Technician position will train in all aspects of the clinical laboratory. During the training period you will train to process samples, performs tests and record, and analyze results. The Laboratory Support Technician supports the Medical Technologist (MT) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
 
Essential Functions:
•      Study the process of conducting tests of body fluids, including blood, urine, spinal fluid, and cultures to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
•      Acquire the knowledge to enter data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into LIMs.
•      Acquire the knowledge to operate, calibrate and maintain instrumentation used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
•      Acquire the knowledge to communicate technical information about test results to clients, such as test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements.
•      Acquire the knowledge to monitor quality assurance and laboratory activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
•      Acquire the knowledge to recognize factors that affect measurements and results and either correct the problem or elevate to supervisor for resolution.
•      Acquire the knowledge to recognize alert/critical test results and inform appropriate personnel.
•      Acquire the knowledge to take all remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from the established performance specifications.
•      Acquire the knowledge to ensure that patient test results include all corrective actions, and the test system is properly functioning before reporting.
•      Assist in external and internal proficiency testing programs.
•      Assist in maintaining all patient information in the strictest confidence.
•      Present a professional demeanor and dress pursuant to company standards.
•      Maintain clean and orderly work area.
•      Follow proper laboratory safety procedures.
•      Maintain efficient flow of verbal and written directives.
•      Maintain required departmental records in the appropriate medium.
•      Perform special project as assigned.
•      Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
·        Bachelor’s degree in Biology or other Sciences (Dec 2021 graduates included)
•      Must meet the Assessment of Competency requirements by completing the appropriate amount of CEUs in each period.
•      Must possess technical competence and high integrity.
•      Strong communications skills – written, verbal, and listening.
•      Establish and maintain effective working relationships
•      Be always alert and aware to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
