Research Chemist

What will you be doing? 
The Research Chemist serves an important function at Intertek Pharmaceutical Services. You will have responsibility for developing, validating, and analysis of mass spectrometry methods for the pharmaceutical industry, focused on extractables and leachables. What’s more, you will have access to modern instrumentation and collaboration with experience peers. This role has tremendous growth opportunities for the right candidate and will benefit those who are hardworking and conscientious scientists.

Responsibilities:  
  • Plans, performs and completes more complex projects
  • Develop and Validate analytical methods
  • Assists with project cost estimates
  • Reviews analyses and documentation on completed projects
  • Writes technical reports
  • Assists with the evaluation and recommendation of new equipment and technology
  • Troubleshoots problems and performs investigations when necessary
  • Communicates with clients to address questions and provide project updates. Address client problems under supervision.
  • Prepares bill memos
  • Familiar with a wide variety of concepts, practices, procedures and regulations
  • Primary job functions require a wide degree of creativity and judgement
  • Relies on significant experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Typically reports to a department manager
  • Leads and directs work of others
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned

What qualifications do you need?
  • Experience with and knowledge of GC/MS and LC/MS demonstrated through a combination of industry and academic performance
  • Expected level of experience would conform to:
  • BS in Chemistry or related degree + 5 years of mass spectrometry (coupled with either liquid or gas chromatography) focused work experience including detailed interpretation of spectral data and development of mass spectrometry based methods.
  • MS in Chemistry or related degree + 2 years of mass spectrometry (coupled with either liquid or gas chromatography) focused work experience including detailed interpretation of spectral data and development of mass spectrometry based methods.
  • PhD in Chemistry or related degree with mass spectrometry (coupled with either liquid or gas chromatography) focused experience including detailed interpretation of spectral data and development of mass spectrometry based methods.
  • Must have experience with and knowledge of mass spectrometry and sample preparation to perform analytical methods and solve analytical problems (for example SPME). 
  • Must have experience developing and performing trace level analysis for targeted and non-targeted techniques
  • Must have experience in chemical structure determination from
  • LC/MS data interpretation based on complex ESI data
  • GC/MS data interpretation based on CI and EI data
  • Experience and knowledge of GC/MS and LC/MS instruments, experiments, and data analysis is required
  • Excellent organization/multitasking, project management, and communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork ability to integrate expertise into multi-technique solutions to complex problems
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills, including data interpretation/analysis
  • Ability to generate client reports and supporting documentation
  • Strong computer skills (Windows, MS Office, data acquisition software)
  • Understanding of extractable and leachable study performance is preferred
  • Trace level method validation experience preferred
