Postdoctoral Research Associate - Emerging and Solid-State Batteries

Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance science and technology in the areas of electrochemical energy storage including solid state batteries among other battery R&D duties. Selection will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, technical skills, and education. Specifically, the chosen candidate is expected to develop and execute research projects on cathode materials synthesis, processing, and characterization for solid state battery applications.

Candidates should have demonstrated record of technical accomplishments in 1) in solid state battery science and technology; 2) battery materials synthesis, processing, and manufacturing; and 3) cell design development, characterization, and performance evaluation. Prior experience with lithium-ion cathode and electrolyte materials synthesis, solid-state battery assembly and relevant electrochemical characterization is highly desired. These research areas are aligned with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Vehicle Technologies and other DOE programs.

This position is in the Electrification and Energy Infrastructure Division, and research will primarily be conducted at ORNL’s Grid Research, Integration & Deployment Center (GRID-C). The successful candidate will collaborate with staff across ORNL and will be expected to communicate at conferences and project review meetings and interface with scientists at other national labs, industry, and universities.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Research and develop advanced solid state battery technologies.
