Nurse Extern
Inova is accepting applications for our 2022 Nurse Extern Program.
Available for nursing students graduating in December 2022 or May 2023.
There will be two (2) start dates: June 6th and June 13th; duration of the externship will be eight (8) weeks; nurse externs must be available to attend all eight weeks.
Session 1 is 6/6/2022-7/30/2022 and Session 2 is 6/13/2022-8/6/2022
Please note that you will be hired into one of our 5 hospital locations (Fairfax, Fair Oaks, Alexandria, Mount Vernon, or Loudoun) and work 3 twelve hour shifts per week. (Must be able to work day and night shift)
Applications will be reviewed for immediate consideration; virtual interviews will take place in December.
The Nurse Extern responsibilities include:
- Under the direction and supervision of the RN, delivers basic nursing care and monitoring in accordance with completed competencies and unit needs.
- Teamwork - Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Assist the healthcare team to achieve desired patient and unit outcomes. Collaborates with healthcare team to implement plan of care.
- Quality/Best Practice - Familiarizes self with the quality process and participates in quality improvement initiatives as directed by the RN.
- Professional Development - Identifies own learning needs and seeks opportunities to enhance practice knowledge base.
- Eligible to be hired as a PRN Clinical Technician 2 upon completion of summer externship.
Requirements:
• Currently enrolled in a nursing degree program
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Successful completion of one acute care clinical rotation
• Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification through AHA
• Proficient in English verbal and written communication
• Must be able to attend all eight weeks
• Must provide two letters of recommendation
