21143 - Senior Manager, Grant Operations

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Senior Manager, Grant Operations within the Grant Operations & Evaluation (GOE) department. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
Position Summary:
The Senior Manager, Grant Operations works under the supervision of the Vice President, GOE to oversee the unit’s mandate as a resource for grantmaking information, budget, tracking, data, and analysis. Primary responsibilities of the position include supervision of the GrantOps data analysis and support team and coordination across multiple GrantOps and Program units, with a focus on the development and production of regular and ad hoc reporting any analytical resources for staff, leadership, and external audiences. The position involves liaising with internal and external constituencies, including leadership, regional program teams, government relations, public affairs, core institutes, and Department of State contacts.
Responsibilities:
Supervise GrantOps data analysis and support team (currently Program Officer and Program Assistant) with a primary focus on coordination of activities across departments, grantmaking budget tracking, and production of analytical information resources.  Responsibilities include:
  • Working with the VP, GOE, coordinate and ensure alignment of activities across GrantOps units
  • Provide oversight of grantmaking planning and budget tracking, in coordination with regional program leadership
  • Supervise production of reporting and analytics on all aspects of the grantmaking program, with a primary focus on program funding areas, workflow analytics, trend analysis, storytelling, and planning. Resources to be produced include briefing materials, data visualizations, analyses, projections, and related deliverables on grantmaking activities and internal processes.
  • Oversee and coordinate management of projects as assigned.
  • Serve as the administrative point of contact for proposals and reports to the Department of State, guaranteeing the quality of the proposal and report review process, coordinating closely with the Senior Director of Grants Administration and other senior program leadership.
  • Other tasks as assigned in support of grantmaking operations.
Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s level education or equivalent experience that includes a command of budget forecasting, data fluency, and quantitative analysis
  • 8 – 10 years of experience, including work with a systems focus on foundations, non-profits, or grants management
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and related skills; particularly Excel and SharePoint.
  • Proven experience using data visualization software such as Tableau and a strong understanding of underlying database structures. Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and coordination
Other Qualifications:
  • Interest in international affairs and strengthening of democratic institutions worldwide.
  • Foreign language competency preferred.
  • Appreciation of the NED’s mission. Related regional, functional, and language capabilities a plus.
  • Familiarity with international activities/issues relevant to NED’s operating environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
Competencies:
  • Strong written and oral communications skills; ability to make presentations in front of groups
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, international office environment.
  • Experience supervising people and tasks, including project management and oversight.
  • A high degree of organization and initiative, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and be able to work independently with little direction.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in a multi-ethnic, multi-national environment, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and with discretion.
