Development Associate VISTA

This Development Associate VISTA will be hosted by Spanish Coalition for Housing located in Chicago, IL. Spanish Coalition for Housing is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Spanish Coalition for Housing is a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency providing comprehensive counseling, education, and housing resources necessary for Latinos and other low-to-moderate income families with two offices in the north and south Chicago while also serving virtually across the Chicagoland area. Our mission is to develop competence and responsibility in meeting the communities' financial and housing needs while advocating and promoting additional resources for them. Spanish Coalition for Housing is a local and national leader in the housing counseling sector and continues to innovate its service delivery and expand its target market presence. We deliver quality programs and compassionate service to all residents in need. This project will enhance the development department’s capacity by researching and identifying grant and fundraising opportunities available locally and nationally that are mission-aligned.
 
The Development Associate VISTA will research and design a fundraising strategy to transform one-time event in-kind giving donors into engaged and sustained monthly giving members. Explore the use of communication tools that are effective and target designated donor groups based on levels of interest. Based on data collected, identify creative personalized ways for donors to actively participate in organizational events and develop a stronger relationship. Share findings with Development Team during a brief presentation. An interest in the mission of the Spanish Coalition for Housing is essential. The ideal candidate needs to be able to be creative, adaptable, and analytical. Demonstrate capacity to use a variety of communication tools and have excellent written communication skills.

Conduct extensive research and collect and dissect donor data.  
Enhance the development department’s capacity by researching and identifying grant and fundraising opportunities available locally and nationally that are mission-aligned.

Benefits – Training
 
In addition to the training offered by AmeriCorps to all members in the VISTA program, Housing Action coordinates two mandatory, multi-day, trainings. One in September focused on setting AmeriCorps members up for success during their term of service, and one in the spring focused on setting AmeriCorps members up to secure their next professional endeavor after their term of service. Both trainings are highly specialized based on Housing Action’s experience running the program, contemporary best practices, and trends, and input from the currently serving AmeriCorps members themselves.
