Innovation Studios Coach

Program Description:
The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) is partnering with NuVuX to provide innovation studios to middle and high school students. AGBU (https://agbu.org/) is the world’s largest non-profit organization devoted to upholding the Armenian heritage through educational, cultural and humanitarian programs. NuVuX (https://nuvux.nuvustudio.com/) is an initiative that brings design, creativity and innovation to K-12 schools and organizations around the world, allowing students to explore real world topics in a hands-on studio environment, solving complex challenges using creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

AGBU Innovation Studios is:
A multidisciplinary project-based program aimed to inspire the next generation of young Armenian creators, innovators and agents of change by empowering them with 21st century skills in technology, design and systems thinking  Our goal is to foster the development of engaged and solution-oriented individuals who bring a creative and innovative spirit and social impact in all aspects of life, and who actively engage in the Armenian world and beyond not only as active members, but as architects of its future 

Participants will explore the Armenian language, culture and history in ways that are relevant, dynamic and meaningful to their personal Armenian narrative .

Responsibilities:
Coaches should have interests in design, technology and education. They will be responsible for teaching studios where they brainstorm, design, and create with middle and high school students. They will also work alongside other coaches and NuVuX staff in a dynamic studio setting to: 
  • Bring unique expertise in specific areas to broaden the students' exposure to technology, engineering, art, design, and other fields of study 
  • Give critical feedback to students about their ideas and their prototypes while allowing students to explore their own path through the design process 
  • Guide students in realizing projects of varying degrees of complexity
Skills and Experience:
  • Preferred experience in digital fabrication (3D printing & laser cutting), Arduino microcontrollers, simple electrical circuits, Rhino3D, Unity game development 
  • Preferred teaching experience with teens 
  • Knowledge of Armenian language and content preferred but not required

Training and Hours:
Before teaching innovation studios, coaches will be trained by AGBU and NuVuX staff on the studio topics that will be taught and the framework with which they will be conducted. Onboarding is scheduled for December 2021 followed by NuVuX professional development training in January 2022. A weekly commitment of 20 hours is expected, including set teaching hours on weekends and flexible studio preparation and team meetings during the week. The program is set to launch at the end of January 2022.
