Mental Health Therapist Inpatient Services
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Statement: This professional clinical position is responsible for conducting clinical assessments and delivering treatment services in individual, family and group formats consistent with the scope of practice of the incumbent. Treatment and therapy will be provided based upon the treatment plan developed by the multidisciplinary treatment team. This professional will be a key member of the treatment team and its process.

Supervision: None
Work Schedule: The work hours consist of flexible scheduling for coverage between the hours of 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, weekend and evening rotation as needed. Days and hours may change for clinical/programmatic needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Conduct interviews upon admission to identify the strengths and needs of the patient and the family. Along with the psychiatrists, nurses, and occupational therapist, help to develop treatment goals for the hospital stay and beyond.
2) Provide information and supportive counseling to patients and families in relation to the illness itself and how it affects relationships, work/school performance, and family life.
3) Primary point of contact for the family. When appropriate, provide the family with information and arrange and conduct meetings to facilitate communication among patient, family and care team members. This is often vital to the transition of the patient when discharged and to the long-term success of treatment.
4) Conduct therapeutic groups to help patients with coping skills.
5) Guide patients’ contact with agencies in the community and provide most of the information for follow-up. Planning for aftercare is a collaborative process with patient, family, the treatment team, and outside services.
6) Provide person centered and individualized care in individual treatment, group, and family therapy as deemed appropriate to the individual’s specific illness.
7) Provide psychosocial assessments of all patients. Conduct assessments of patient’s social, emotional, interpersonal and socioeconomic issues.
8) Work to enhance patient and family communications with the treatment team members to enable patients to be active partners in their own care.
9) Provide clinical support and coverage to other clinical staff and units, as assigned/needed.
10) Actively participate in multidisciplinary team processes, including rounds, treatment planning, case reviews, and collaborate on discharge planning with the treatment team, including the case management team.
11) Primary therapist to assigned patients to assess presentation in relation to DSM 5 including substance use, aging, bullying, anger management, relationships, depression, LBGTQ, self-esteem, stress and suicide
12) Work collaboratively with the patient, legal guardian, caregiver, collateral contacts and treatment team in creating a personalized treatment plan
13) Contribute in staff meeting, case conferences, case presentations, and training initiatives
14) Complete required documentation in the patient electronic medical record in a timely manner, according to policy and procedure.
15) Comply in a timely, honest and quality manner with all Corporate and management reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, DMARS, clinical reporting, Quality reporting, HR and finance reporting requirements.
16) Read, understand and comply with all Diamond policies and procedures, as well as the Diamond and Markel Codes of Conduct.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
1) Licensed in New York as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or as a Licensed Psychologist.
2) Two plus years’ experience providing behavioral health services in an inpatient setting preferred.
3) The incumbent must have knowledge of crisis intervention principles and practices, case management practices, understanding and the ability to provide individual, group and family therapy.
4) Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology.
5) Skills to detect unusual patient behaviors through observing people who are at risk because of health problems, substance use or other health related problems.
6) Professional writing skills to document patient’s condition, treatment and care plan in records.
7) Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, supervisors, physicians and the general public and work in a treatment team environment.
8) Physical ability to perform duties assigned.
9) Knowledge of regulatory agency standards Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Office of Mental Health and Det Norske Veritas standards.
10) Commitment to enhancing cultural competency.
11) Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to follow oral and written instructions as well as the ability to read and understand English.
