Open Source Intelligence Analyst / Developer

The Open Source Intelligence Analyst / Developer position is a global program role requiring knowledge in open source intelligence, computer programming, API integrations, and web scraping. This role will create and distribute custom tools to a team of intelligence analysts, while also using them to perform investigations. We are looking for high performers willing to bring their “A-game”, with experience in:

  • Open Source Intelligence, including experience collecting and analyzing publicly available information
  • Computer programming and scripting, including knowledge of Java, Beanshell, JavaScript, HTML, JQuery, and Regular Expressions
  • API integrations and the use of modern web scraping techniques and software
  • Development of customized data ontologies to merge data from disparate sources
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
Business Description
Citi Security and Investigative Services (CSIS) is a full-service security and investigative team that protects the assets, integrity, and reputation of Citi and its clients. We accomplish this by offering in-house professional security services and independent investigations to clients across all of Citi's businesses and regions, and through partnerships with other Citi business groups, law enforcement agencies, governments, and industry counterparts.
Global Intelligence and Analysis (GIA) is a strategic analytic unit within CSIS providing business analytics, threat intelligence, and open source intelligence products to Citi executives, CSIS leadership, and key stakeholders. We operate an all-source analytical unit to understand emerging threats in the banking/financial industry, risk trends for the company, and opportunities to improve or adapt business practices. GIA is globally dispersed with analysts in the US, Mexico, Singapore, India, and Hungary leveraging a follow-the-sun model to meet our clients’ needs.

A little about this role:
Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Development of analytics technologies to advance automation in the intelligence analysis process
  • Usage of custom tools for analysis of open source, security, fraud, and cyber related cases
  • Partner with Citi stakeholders, business partners, and external colleagues on open source methodologies and tools for finding disparate data
  • Training and mentoring of others, including the development of materials for newly created intelligence tools
  • Identify and vet new and innovative intelligence sources, methodologies, and collection tradecraft
  • Deliver detailed and professional briefings on Advanced Analytics capabilities, resources, and tradecraft to integrate in-depth analysis based on industry practices
  • Proactively analyze threats that create a risk to the company, its employees, shareholders, assets and clients
  • Identify and report on operational events and trends, tactical assessments of current and future threats, operational, tactical and strategic recommendations to counter those threats
  • Create succinct narrative reports, presentations, visual mapping and link charts or similar diagrams to report analytical assessments
  • Display data and the results of analysis in clear straightforward business report that can be understood by non-technical readers
  • Provide written explanations of approach and analysis in plain language that supports the conclusions and observations
  • Develop, analyze and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and key risk indicators (KRIs) for the existing business model
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
  • Employs developed communication and diplomacy skills to exchange potentially complex/sensitive information
The CSIS Intermediate Analyst position requires proven experience in both the creation and usage of intelligence analysis tools for the purpose of investigations. If you have the following, we would like to talk to you:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required and advanced degrees are welcome- preferably in a STEM major, computer science, or cyber technology - Certifications from EC-Council, GIAC, (ISC)² [CISSP, C/EH, GCIA, CCNA] or relevant technical or specialty areas are a plus
  • Minimum of two to three years of technical experience
  • Previous experience with application development, computer scripting, corporate security or investigations, intelligence community, or journalism is preferred
  • Experience in developing and utilizing analytical software applications—Specifically link analysis (e.g. Palantir, Semantica Pro, Maltego, I-2, or ESRI )
  • Experience creating or modifying tools with the objective of automating complex tasks
  • Familiarity with information gathering and analysis, including use of commercial databases, internet and non‐digitized sources, deep and dark web, social media, etc.
  • Self-starter and resourceful individual, with experience operating in fast paced and dynamic operational settings
  • Strong background in problem solving and the implementation of custom technical solutions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, & SharePoint – demonstrated creativity in use of these products to solve analytical problems
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal oversight, while producing high quality analysis
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, through all levels of the organization
  • Established project management skills - Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and execute daily duties with minimal supervision
